Chapter 28
:
Chloe stood outside the study door, her head spinning like she’d been punched.
She stumbled back until her shoulders hit the cold wall–hard.
Bent over and gasping, she couldn’t stop the hurt from spreading through her whole body.
He’d finally snapped.
Finally said the truth he’d buried for years.
He loved Andrea. Wanted to marry her.
Hated his grandfather for tearing them apart. Hated him for stealing his happiness.
All this time? She’d been fooling herself.
She closed her eyes, feeling her heart tear right down the middle.

Inside the study, Edward sat behind his desk. Shane and Thomas stood on either side like guards.
Ian stood facing them, fists clenched at his sides, eyes bloodshot, veins bulging on his forehead.
Shane’s face was stone. “You’re the Hamilton heir. Every move you make reflects on this family. If she wants to work, she joins Hamilton Group. If not, she stays home and gives us a child. We don’t carry dead weight.”
Ian’s voice was low and hard. “Whether she works or has kids–that’s between us. Not you.”
Shane started to speak, but Edward cut him off.
The old man stood, and Thomas rushed to support his arm.
He walked around the desk until he stood right in front of Ian. “Six years ago, I made Andrea disappear right under your nose,” Edward said, his voice cold and absolute. “Today, I can make her–and that boy–vanish for good.”
Ian’s voice shook with rage. “Don’t push me, Grandfather.”
Edward’s voice was low and dangerous. “You’re the Hamilton heir. I won’t let some woman and a child of questionable origin ruin you–or this family!”
Ian stood his ground. “That boy is mine.”
The room went dead silent.
Shane stepped forward and slapped Ian hard across the face. “You damn fool! What were you thinking?”
Ian wiped blood from his lip. “Why so angry, Dad? Weren’t you the one who had a secret child of your own?”

Shane raised his hand again, but Edward stopped him. “If you claim the boy is yours, prove it. I want a DNA
test.”
“Grandfather, I know you could make them disappear with one call,” fan said, his voice cold. “But if anything happens to Andrea or that boy, I’ll burn Hamilton Group to the ground.”
A flicker of cruelty passed through Edward’s eyes. “If the child is truly yours, I’ll let them live.”
Ian’s shoulders relaxed slightly. “I’ll bring you the results.”
He turned to leave–and froze.
Chloe stood outside the door, pale and shaking.
Their eyes met.
Tears streamed silently down her face.
Ian’s chest tightened. “Let’s go home,” he said, voice unsteady.
But Chloe pushed past him into the study.
With a heavy thud, she dropped to her knees in front of Edward.
Ian stared. “Chloe, what are you doing?”
She shook off his hand and clutched Edward’s pant leg.
“Grandfather, please–let him be with them. Let us divorce.”
Ian pulled her up roughly. “Stop this!”
But she broke free and knelt again, grabbing both Edward’s and Shane’s trousers desperately.
“I know my family owes you money after the bankruptcy. I’m not running–I’ll sign papers. My parents, my brother, me–we’ll all sign. I’ll give you my paycheck, I’ll find a way to pay back every cent of that 300 million.”
Ian stared at Chloe’s pale face, his own eyes turning red.
The thought that she’d heard everything he said hit him like a physical blow–he swayed on his feet, barely staying upright.
Edward looked down at her coldly. “Do you truly want a divorce?”
Chloe raised her hand as if taking an oath. “I swear, Grandfather. I won’t say a single bad word about the Hamiltons. Or–or you can hold a press conference. I’ll say I cheated. That I’m the one who ruined everything.”
She was trembling now. “I’ll leave with nothing. I won’t take a single cent from him.”
