Andrea spoke cautiously, “Mrs. Hamilton asked me to give this to you. She wanted you to know there’s 300 million on it. She said she would tell you the password the day you get the divorce certificate with her.”
Ian tossed both the divorce papers and the bank card onto the coffee table. “Robert will be here any minute. Go pack your things.”
Ian sat on the couch, lighting a cigarette.
‘So she managed to put together 300 million just like that? I must’ve sold off that jewelry set on the sly, Ian thought.
Andrea hadn’t expected that, with the divorce papers and bank card right there, Ian still wanted her out of the house.
Andrea clenched her fists, bitterness choking her words as she bit them back. “Ian, why can’t you just admit you still care about me?”
Ian leaned forward, elbows on his knees, taking a slow, heavy drag from his cigarette.
His tone was hard to read. “Andrea, what we had ended six years ago.”
The faint haze of smoke blurred his vision as he stared hard at the divorce papers and bank card on the coffee
table.
Andrea stood before him, her eyes full of frustration. “Ian, I know your family doesn’t approve of me. They’ve given you so much pressure, and you can’t just leave Mrs. Hamilton and get back with me as you please.
Her voice softened. “Ian, I get it. If that’s all our lives are ever going to be, I’ll just have to accept it. But please, don’t be so heartless with your words. Hearing that from you really breaks my heart.”
Ian stubbed out his cigarette and stood up. “Andrea, nobody can stop me from doing what I want. If I’m not getting a divorce, it’s because I don’t want to.”
He went on, “Chloe has been spoiled since she was little. She can’t handle being wronged. Whether she wants to run away or threatens divorce, it’s all just between me and her.”
Ian added, “I don’t need your understanding. Just take Clint and leave. That’s the biggest help you can give
me.”
Andrea just stood there, unsure what to do with herself.
She’d finally gotten into this house. No way was she going to get kicked out without a fight.
Before Andrea could reply, her tears came first, stinging in her eyes. “lan, it’s not like we forced our way in here. Mrs. Hamilton was the one who insisted we move in. Now you’re telling us to pack up and go? If anyone hears about this, how am I supposed to hold my head up?”

Ian looked tired, rubbing his eyes. “Andrea, this place is my home with Chloe. Do you really think you beton
here
Andrea shot back, “lan, you lied to Mrs. Hamilton for me. You vanished for a whole month without a sinde call or text. That didn’t bother you. But now, just because I moved in at Mrs. Hamilton’s invitav, I’m suddenly the one in the wrong? Am I really that unreasonable?
Ian looked away, masking the turmoil in his eyes.
He knew he’d fallen short here, and he wasn’t about to deny it.
Seeing lan stay silent, Andrea pressed on, her voice unyielding
She said, “lan, you’ve been married to Mrs. Hamilton for three years, and when she begged you to buy her pads, you wouldn’t even bother. But just one call from me, and you rushed to the store and picked out half a dozen brands for me to choose from.
“You stood up to your grandfather for my sake. You made it clear to Mrs. Hamilton that I was the one you really wanted to marry, not her.
“You said it yourself. After losing me, you never found happiness again. You only settled for her because you had no choice, and you married her out of desperation.
“So how can you still pretend you don’t feel anything for me?”

Every word Andrea said hit Ian harder, dragging his heart down.
It felt like a mountain was crushing his chest. He could barely breathe.
He asked quietly, “Did Chloe really say all that to you?”
Andrea nodded. “If Mrs. Hamilton hadn’t told me herself, how could I possibly know?”
Andrea carefully stepped up to lan, tentatively reaching for his hand. “Ian, now that Mrs. Hamilton has decided to let us be together, and since neither of us can really let go of the other, can’t we start over?”
As she spoke, she pressed herself closer and rose onto her toes, trying to kiss him.
Jan didn’t move, almost like he was testing his own feelings, standing utterly still.
But just as Andrea’s lips were about to touch his, lan suddenly recoiled and pushed her away without thinking.
He turned his back to her. “Robert is here. Pack your things and take Clint home.”
Jan couldn’t accept Andrea, neither in his heart nor in his body.
This time, lan knew it for sure.
All he felt for Andrea now was guilt and responsibility. There wasn’t a trace of love left.

Her face was filled with disbelief as she demanded, “Tan, I’ve loved you for so many years and given up so much for you. How can you be this heartless to me?”
Jan turned to face her, his gaze icy and detached,
“Andrea,” he said, “I know you’ve sacrificed a lot for me over these six years and gone through so much pain. That’s why I’ve always tried my best to give you what you asked for. I even faked a paternity test to protect you and Clint.
“I kept the truth from Chloe just to spare your dignity. For you two, I put Chloe aside, made her suffer, made her stay up at night in misery, all so I could look after you and Clint.”
lan continued, “Andrea, I can compensate you and Clint as much as you need, but I will never put my marriage on the line. Do you hear me?”
Andrea finally lost it, tears streaming down her face as she lifted her left hand. “Ian, do you see what this is?”
The instant lan saw the wedding ring on her finger, his expression went stone cold.
He immediately tried to snatch the ring off Andrea’s finger. “How did Chloe’s wedding ring end up on you?”
Andrea backed away, dodging him. “Ian, she took it off herself and gave it to me. Bet you didn’t see that coming, did you?”
Ian’s eyes darkened.
He stepped forward, gripping Andrea’s wrist tight and tore the wedding ring off her finger.
Andrea gasped, her hand aching as tears streamed down uncontrollably. “Ian, Mrs. Hamilton doesn’t want you anymore.”
“Shut up,” Ian snapped.
He grabbed a tissue and furiously scrubbed at the ring.
