Chapter 57
They hadn’t seen each other in over a month. He stood at the front of the car, she at the back.
They stared at each other in silence across the short distance.
Seeing Ian, Chloe felt no desire to speak.
She calmly broke eye contact and turned toward the apartment building’s entrance.

Ian stepped in front of her, his voice unconsciously low. “Why didn’t you say you were coming back? I would have picked you up from the airport.”
Chloe took a small step back and looked up, their
eyes meeting.
She coolly pulled her arm from his grasp. “You should have received the divorce papers. My lawyer will handle any questions you have.”
A complex look crossed Ian’s face. “Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. I’ll come by later to take you to the manor for dinner.”
Ian’s deliberate avoidance of the divorce made Chloe’s expression turn cold.
She glanced toward the young man running out from the gate and refused flatly, “There’s no need.”
A flash of irritation crossed Ian’s normally composed features.
He stepped forward, about to grab Chloe’s arm, but Carl beat him to it, pulling Chloe protectively to his side.
Carl shot Ian a glare before turning to Chloe with a wide grin. “Chloe, Mom and Dad sent me to come get you.”
Ignoring Ian completely, Chloe pushed her suitcase toward her brother. “Let’s go.”
Carl took the suitcase in one hand and linked his other arm with Chloe’s, and the two walked off toward the
entrance.
Ian stood frozen, his hand slowly falling back to his side,
He watched blankly as the Irvine siblings disappeared through the gate, not moving for a long moment.

Later that evening, on the third floor of the Royal Court Club.
When Ian walked in and saw Mia, his face darkened. “What is a young woman like you doing here this late instead of being at home?”
Mia ducked behind Patrick. “Grandpa sent me. He said to remind you that tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and you need to bring Chloe to the manor for dinner.”

Mia lingered, not wanting to leave, so Patrick grabbed her purse, half–coaxing, half–dragging her out. “Ian. give me a minute. I’ll just walk your sister to the door.”
Shortly after they left, Andrea knocked and entered the suite.
Jan’s eyes darkened when he saw her.
“lan, don’t get the wrong idea,” Andrea said quickly. “I was just passing by and saw you were here. I just wanted to say hi before I go.”
lan nodded, his mood obviously low.
Andrea approached him cautiously, her tone probing. “Ian, Clint has been asking about you constantly. He has the day off tomorrow. I was wondering if we could all have dinner together.”
lan swirled the liquor in his glass. “Tomorrow’s Thanksgiving. I have to spend it with my wife and family.”
The smile on Andrea’s face froze solid when she heard Chloe was back.
It was only for a moment, but she quickly recovered.
“It’s wonderful that your wife is back,” Andrea said with a smile. “In that case, I won’t disturb your family
reunion.”
With that, she turned and left the suite with her head held high.
She stopped at the corner of the hallway, leaning against the wall and taking several deep breaths.
