Chloe had been locked up for almost two days straight, then had to spend another whole day out and about dealing with things.
She was freaking out about her mom’s health, her heart aching for those kids stuck with leukemia, and on top of all that, she was a nervous wreck over her own case.
Chloe was completely wiped out, both body and soul, but the moment she spotted Ian, sheer fury took over- her tired limbs moved on pure rage as she marched right up to him.
Chloe was burning with rage–without a second thought, she raised her hand and swung at Ian for a slap.
Ian snatched her wrist, surprised at how freezing cold her hand was.
Frowning, Ian tightened his grip and hauled her inside, not giving her a chance to fight back.
At this point, Chloe had totally snapped–her emotions were beyond control.
She broke loose from Ian’s grip, snatching up anything she could get her hands on and flinging it straight at him.
Ian dodged the stuff Chloe hurled his way, then moved in to try and restrain her.
Ian seized both her wrists, his face cold and unreadable. “If you’re only here to vent instead of actually fixing anything, then just leave,” he said, voice clipped.
Chloe ignored the ache in her wrists, twisting free and with shaky hands, snatched at Ian’s suit lapel, refusing to back down.
She shot him a furious glare and demanded, “They’re decent, honest folks–my cousin and his family. Daisy is only nine and fighting leukemia, and you used them too? What kind of person are you?” Chloe spat, her voice trembling.
Ian didn’t try to shake her off; he let Chloe clutch his suit, replying in a calm, almost indifferent tone, “That was his decision to make.”
Chloe looked at Ian, feeling utterly defeated–like every ounce of strength and every plan she had was gone.
She just stood there, frozen, staring blankly at the man before her.
Her eyes were swollen red, lips quivering as she choked out every word, “Ian, I’ll make you pay for what you’ve done!”
Chloe shoved Ian away and spun around to leave.
Ian’s hand shot out, locking around her wrist to hold her back.
He stared her down, icy calm. “You’ve got proof I cheated, and I’ve got solid evidence you crossed the line. Even if you blow Andrea and her kid’s secrets wide open, all it’ll do is give me a temporary hassle. Nothing of

Ian went on, “But the moment you get nailed for those charges, your parents, your brother, your exter everything you care about–will go up in smoke.”
Chloe yanked her hand free and yelled at him, “Living in hell is way worse for them than anything you threaten! Don’t you dare drag them into this!”
Ian just stood there, watching Chloe’s fury blazing in her eyes.
He said, “Chloe, your folks aren’t getting any younger, and your mom’s health is hanging by a thread. Carl’s got his SATs next year. If you get locked up, they’ll lose their only lifeline. You and Carl are immediate family -whatever happens to you will directly wreck his future, too.”
Chloe’s voice cracked as she screamed, “You have no right to mention my family! Shut up!”
Ian stared right into Chloe’s eyes, his tone ice cold. “You’ve spent half a year in Tecnovia, grinding day and night–work, study, scraping your career back together. One wrong move, and everything you’ve built gets wiped out, maybe for good. Is that really what you want?”
Chloe stumbled backward, her strength giving out, finally breaking down as sobs wracked her body and tears poured down.
Ian’s words hit her like a flurry of knives, cutting so deep that Chloe felt like she couldn’t even breathe, every word leaving her gasping for air.
Her vision swam, and Chloe’s body just gave out, collapsing hard onto the floor.
Ian stood over her, cold and towering above, his eyes locked on Chloe’s face, gaunt and exhausted.
He didn’t reach out to help her up, didn’t say a single word of comfort.
In this moment, they weren’t husband and wife anymore–they were opponents at a negotiation table, nothing but two sides fighting for their own interests.
Ian’s expressionless gaze held no warmth at all. “Chloe, we’re adults. Every decision comes with its own price.”
He looked her dead in the eye. “If you’re set on cutting those ties–leaving your parents and your little brother behind–if spending ten years behind bars is the cost you’re willing to pay for your so–called freedom, then I won’t stand in your way. This is your choice.”
Chloe dragged herself up from the floor, her body shaking.
She wobbled as she moved to stand before Jan.
She lifted her gaze, meeting his eyes.
Locking eyes, Chloe’s lips trembled. The way she looked at Ian–like she was staring at a stranger, someone she’d never met before–was full of heartbreak and disbelief.
She murmured under her breath, voice thin and raw, “lan… are you a devil?”

They’d known each other for over twenty years–even if he never loved her, those years meant something.
‘He’s backing me into a corner… leaving me absolutely no way out, Chloe thought, the realization stabbing through her.
Ian stood in front of her, aloof and proud. “Chloe, we’ve been married three years. I’ve never done you wrong, so spare me the theatrics.”
His words hit Chloe hard.
Suddenly, she seized lan by the collar, her eyes burning with tears and rage. “You cheated first, schemed against me after, kept pushing me to bend for your precious woman–even hurt my brother–and you call that not doing me wrong?”
Ian brushed it off with a cold shrug, “If you hadn’t made such a fuss about the divorce, none of this crap would even be happening.”
Chloe couldn’t help but laugh–sharp, broken, half–crazy. “So this is what I deserve, huh? To have my own husband stab me in the back? To go through all of this?”
Ian sounded annoyed now, almost tired of it. “It’s not betrayal. It’s all ancient history. You’re my wife–deal with it.”
Chloe went ballistic, hammering at Ian like she’d gone completely mad. “Why the hell do I have to accept any of this?”
Ian grabbed her waist with one hand and the back of her head with the other, forcing her to look straight into his eyes.
He said, “You wanted this, Chloe. You were the one who insisted on marrying me–now you’re stuck with every part of me, whether you like it or not.”
Chloe thrashed in Ian’s arms, her voice trembling with anger. “If I’d known you had a woman you loved, I would rather have died than married you!”
Ian locked his grip around her, making escape impossible.
His words were cold and absolute. “Chloe, you don’t get a say in this. Either accept everything and come back to me, or spend your days in prison reflecting on your choices.”
Chloe went wild, pounding her fists against Ian with everything she had. “Ian, you’re such a bastard!” she yelled.
When she couldn’t break free, rage boiling inside her, Chloe lashed out and bit down hard on lan’s shoulder, teeth digging in with force.
Ian’s face twisted from the pain, but instead of loosening his hold, he clamped his arms around her even tighter, determined not to let her go.
