Selina hesitated for a moment. "...May I ask your last name?"
Something felt off. The man had called and introduced himself as her cousin without even saying his full name, acting overly familiar, which made Selina suspicious.
Could he be a scammer? After all, her uncle had made it clear—her cousin was in City N handling business and wouldn’t be coming to City A.
Or perhaps... was this another trick from Amelia and the Reid Family?
The man on the other end spoke with the ease of someone used to big scenes. Even when Selina treated him like a fraud, his tone didn’t waver in the slightest. His voice carried the same light smile as before. "Hill. The name’s Hill."
Hill...
Before Selina could say more, the man chuckled. "Or perhaps you could just hand the phone to Mr. Reid."
Hearing that, Selina’s suspicion eased a little.
"Where would you like to meet me?"
The man raised a brow. "Are you at the company?"
"I’m at the Reid Group tower," Selina said plainly.
"Good. Wait for me there."
"That—" Selina started, but the man had already hung up decisively. She hesitated for a moment, then finally decided to wait for him at Reid Group.
Still, she couldn’t shake a nagging sense of unease.
Half an hour later, as Selina passed by the break room, she overheard gossip.
"Did you see? There are a ton of luxury cars downstairs!"
Another employee dismissed it. "Luxury cars parked outside Reid Group? That’s not unusual."
"No, it is unusual! It’s a whole fleet—bigger than the scene I saw at Miss Perez’s wedding in City A. Over a dozen cars, each one worth close to ten million. My god... what’s going on?"
The others gasped. "A dozen cars? Each worth nearly ten million? That’s insane. With so many cars, they could show off anywhere—why here, of all places?"
"Yeah, who the hell is showing off right in front of Mr. Reid?"
Even Selina was secretly stunned. That many luxury cars? Whoever it was, they had money.
Maybe someone was here to discuss business with Reid Group? But even then... did they really need to make such a spectacle?
She was about to return to her office when an assistant came running, panting hard. "Miss Clark... downstairs... someone’s asking for you..."
Selina raised an eyebrow. "For me?"
"Y-yes," the assistant stammered, nearly out of breath. "Mr. Reid is still in a meeting. You—please, go check."
With so many luxury cars and such a huge display, and with her name being singled out, the assistant feared trouble. Given Selina’s well-known connection to Logan, it made sense to have her handle it.
Selina frowned, clearly wary that someone might be here to cause a scene, and headed straight for the elevator.
Inside, she questioned the assistant further, learning that the cars were from a foreign brand known worldwide for flashy, high-performance sports cars.
Selina recalled her brief glance from upstairs... yes, those cars were definitely "flashy."
Not the serious, traditional black. Instead, they were deep purple, with sparkling accents across the body—ostentatious at first sight. The sort of cars favored by spoiled heirs and rich playboys.
So... who exactly had brought such a parade of cars to come looking for her?
As soon as Selina stepped into the lobby, her eyes immediately landed on a man standing there.
With him present, everything else seemed like a mere backdrop. He didn’t need to say a word; just by standing there, everyone understood—he was the center of it all.
But he wasn’t what Selina had expected. This man wasn’t some flashy, arrogant trust-fund brat. Instead, he was dressed in a sharp black suit, his features not particularly sharp, yet carrying an unmistakable aura of authority that made others instinctively tense up.
The manager standing before him looked weak in the knees. When he saw Selina arrive, it was as if he’d just spotted a savior.
"Sir, this is Miss Clark."
