Selina let out a soft hum. "And why aren’t you taking it seriously?"
Luke fell into a strange silence, his eyes shifting guiltily. "That’s... because I..."
Then, like a lightbulb going off, he blurted, "Because I want to coast. If I’ve got the chance to just lie flat, why should I bother trying so hard?"
Logan said nothing, but Selina arched a brow. "Is that so?"
Luke’s throat tightened, and he quickly lowered his head.
Yes. He hadn’t told the truth.
Though he always played the role of a spoiled second-generation heir, growing up in the Reid Family meant he had still picked up some skills along the way. How could he possibly mess up such a simple financial report?
He was doing this because—he didn’t want Reid Family Group.
The company should belong to Logan. If he took it, wouldn’t that mean he was stealing what rightfully belonged to Logan?
Before, Logan was Amelia’s "son," and he and Logan were "brothers."
But now, even that bond was gone. Logan was Anna’s child. As much as Luke hated to admit it, he himself had come out of Amelia’s womb. Not only were they not real brothers, but thanks to Amelia, they were tangled in deep hatred.
Luke mumbled, "Reid Family Group still has Logan. Why do they even need me..."
His voice trailed off until he couldn’t go on, and suddenly he forced a laugh. "It’s late, maybe I should head home!"
With that, he bolted for the door—straight into the heavy downpour outside.
Logan stood in silence for a moment, then turned to Selina.
She nodded. "Go on."
She knew exactly what knot was eating away at Luke. And only Logan could untangle it.
Out in the rain, Luke rushed toward his car. Just as he was about to get in, a black umbrella opened over his head. He froze.
Logan stood there, calm and unreadable. "Tell me, what do you think your relationship with Amelia is?"
"I..." Luke stammered.
"I don’t think you have any relationship with her."
Logan’s voice was steady, unwavering. "You’re my brother. In the entire Reid Family, that’s the only identity you have. Understand?"
Amelia wasn’t his mother, and he had no respect for Daniel as a father. Did those two have anything to do with him?
If not, then they had nothing to do with Luke either.
Luke was simply his brother. No matter who Luke’s birth mother really was, that wouldn’t change.
"I raised you this far not so you could sit here doubting your life, carrying Amelia’s sins on your back."
Luke’s chest trembled. Carefully, he asked, "Then... then are you still my brother?"
Logan narrowed his eyes. "If I weren’t, I’d be finding a way right now to send you to reunite with Amelia."
Tears welled up in Luke’s eyes, and suddenly his defenses broke. "Wahhh, you’re still the best brother ever!"
Logan gave a calm nod. "Now, about today’s assignments—you haven’t finished. Can you continue now?"
Luke: "..."
Luke: "?"
His head snapped up in horror. How had the warm-and-fuzzy channel suddenly turned into a horror channel?
"Logan, are you the devil?"
...
Not long after, Luke announced that he would be the next chairman of Reid Family Group, taking over all of Daniel’s positions and responsibilities.
Speculation ran wild in the outside world, but Logan paid no attention to any of it. He only looked at Selina. "You’re planning to go to City N?"
Selina nodded.
Logan turned his gaze toward the window, his expression unreadable. His voice was calm. "City N to City A—three hours by plane. How long does Mrs. Reid plan to stay?"
