There was something sinful about reading Morning Glory in broad daylight, what if someone walked in on her in the process? Islinda did not know how she was going to explain herself out of it. It was only for research purpose, who would believe her?
Not to mention she couldn’t lock her door else her actions would only seem suspicious.
So she decided to save the book for later at night when everyone would be fast asleep. Whatever flames the Fae used as their source of light were two times brighter and better than the candles in the human realm. Thankfully, she had learned to use the glass lamp which had lava fire floating inside of it, and wouldn’t need Aurelia’s help with it.
Islinda decided to focus on the classic novels she had picked up earlier only for the excitement to be knocked out of her face.
"W-what? What is this?" Islinda flipped through the book, opening a page where a strange language welcomed her. It looked the same as every other Faerie book in the library although the cover page was illustrated in English.
Confused and dazzled, Islinda reached for the second book and checked the content. To her shock, it was written in Fae language as well even though the title was in English which didn’t make any sense.
Islinda shot up to her feet, pushing away from the desk with her brows deeply furrowed in confusion. While she did not check all of the books she took back to her room, Issac told her that they were human literature and had checked eveything earlier, they were written in English. So how?!
Fae’s were not capable of lying, especially one like Issac, so what happened? Were the books enchanted so they would not leave the library or was this one of Aldric’s tricks?
Islinda was quick to believe the latter.
That had to be it! That damned prince must know she needed his permission to access the contents of the library and he wanted her to come beg him on her knees. He was trying to force her hands!
"You wicked Fae, Aldric!" Islinda screamed at the top of her lungs after realizing that this was indeed his naughty handwork.
This was oppression! How could he take away even the smallest source of leisure from her? Must everything revolve around him?! She needed time away from him before she lost her mind. That is if she wasn’t already losing it.
Desperate to find a single book saved from his wretched Fae magic, she scoured through every book on the table, only to find nothing. Everything readable about those books had turned unrecognizable aside from the cover pages, which she only realized now was meant to lower her defenses and fool her in the first place.
"Ahh!" Islinda screamed once again, pulling at her hair in frustration, "Aldric, you fucking damned prince -!"
"Yes, honey, is that how you intend to scream my name in bed?"
Islinda whirled around at once, shocked to see the prince nonchalantly lounging on her bed, and watching her with amusement in his eyes.
Gobsmacked, she looked in the direction of the door and sure enough, it was closed. So how...? Oh, the wretched medallion.
Her gaze locked onto it, that damned ornament was the key to her freedom and Islinda was desperate to get her hands on it. However, the way Aldric carelessly wore it around his neck was all the sign she needed to know that this was bait. The question was, how long till she fell for it?
Islinda was not going to lie, she nearly gave in. The offer was just too tempting. Or she could have snatched the book from him, but something told her everything would just revert according to his will. She couldn’t defeat Aldric in his element.
"No, thank you." She quickly told him before her mouth betrayed her.
"Tsk, what a disappointment," Aldric lowered the book, pretending to be sad, only to announce, "Nonetheless, you know where to find me if you change your mind."
"Also," He added at the last minute, "You can have dinner all by yourself, I’ll be busy."
"Busy?" Islinda was intrigued, wondering what he was up to now.
"It’s a secret, honey," Aldric winked at her.
When the Aldric left this time, he used the door to her surprise. Sure, sure, he came in like a thief and left like a prince.
Islinda expelled a sharp breath, what just happened?
