Mated To The Cruel Prince novel Chapter 224

Chapter 224: Before Sundown

"What are you doing?"

Lola whirled around startled, her pulse racing only to let out a relieved sigh when she realized that it was no other person than Marci, her sister. The younger siblings stood at the entrance, still holding onto the doorknob and staring at her in both confusion and suspicion.

With a deep breath, Lola stomped over, pulling her into the room, and peered outside, scanning if anyone had followed her before shutting the door and leaning on it with a sigh until she recalled she had company.

"What are you doing here, Marci?" She asked, heading over to her bed where her bag lay open with her things scattered across the sheet, "Also didn’t I tell you never to come into my room without knocking," She gave her an admonishing look.

But the young girl ignored her, roving eyes pinpointing her traveling bag, "Where are you going?" She asked her.

"None of your business," Lola brushed off, picking up the herbs and ingredients that were stored in tight-lidded containers from the shelf and putting them into her bag.

"Does mother know where you are headed?" Marci badgered her with more questions, the suspicion nagging at the back of her mind now increasing.

Lola halted for a moment, turning to look at her with thin lips before resuming with packing the rest of her things, "No, which is precisely why my movement is hushed. But don’t worry, she would know once I drop a note."

"Is this about Dorcas?"

The sharp look Lola gave her was enough indication the girl was not supposed to know about that news. Yet.

She walked over, looking at her sister intensely with her brows drawn, "How did you know that?"

"The news has spread throughout the witch community and your altercation with Ada was not exactly hush," Marci spat

"Fuck," Lola ran her hand through her hair, pushing back the bouncy black curls, "If that’s the case, then mother would be here soon. I have to go now. "

Lola hurried back to the bedside, hastily stuffing what was left of her things into the bag haphazardly, and pulled the drawstrings till it was close and tied it. She picked the bag and slid it over one shoulder, turning to leave only to almost run into her sister.

"Marci, what are you doing?" She eyed the aggressive pose her sister had taken.

Lola brushed away the stray hair from her sister’s face, smiling unconsciously at the frown on her face even while asleep. Marci would be furious out of her mind when she woke up and realized that she tricked her; she had no choice.

Realizing that there was no more time to waste, Lola straightened up, then produced a pen out of her pocket which she used to write a message in thin air. However, when she grasped at the air, a piece of paper appeared in her hand with the message to her mother, and she muttered a spell under her breath. The paper vanished from her hand and Lola blew air into her mouth.

She then walked over to her desk where a large map was sprawled out, and pulled out a small knife from a pocket in her bag, slicing her palm open, her face scrunching a little from the pain. She then clenched her fist and let the blood drip onto the map while holding onto a necklace around her neck and began to make her incantations.

The atmosphere in the room shifted, evident of an otherworldly power being summoned. Lola’s voice rose in pitch as the power intensified until the air was suffocating with the smell of magic until images formed in her head, which were no doubt Dorcas’ location - or precisely, the last place she was before her death.

Lola expelled a breath once she got what she wanted and was in the process of rolling the map when her door was forced open and there stood her mother.

Great.

The woman did not have a chance to counter her plan, Lola vanished through the portal she summoned in a split second.
