Someone was humming a haunting yet somehow soothing tune and Islinda moved slightly in her sleep. The voice was rich but the sadness in that melody made her heart ache, she wished she could make the sorrow go away. Such a beautiful voice deserves to sing a happier tune.
Islinda moaned in delight, rubbing her head against a warm body when long calloused free fingers ran through her hair, massaging her scalp. By the gods, this was the best feeling ever. Islinda pressed her head further against him, savoring the feeling like a pet dog who wanted more affection from his master.
Wait a minute...
Islinda’s eyes snapped open to stare into dazzling blue eyes that rendered her speechless. Aldric was breathtaking. The Fae was perfect. His face was definitely sculpted by a mischievous god who decided he was tired of peace and sent this cold heartbreaker to wreck a female’s heart. That was the only way Islinda could explain her bodily reaction to him.
Else, why would her heart skip a beat being this close to him? To make it worse, Aldric brushed a strand of hair from her face, stroked her cheek, and studied her. Islinda gazed at him, lips parted and face flushed. So when Aldric leaned in, her heart began to race and she found it difficult to control her breathing especially when his gaze flickered down to her lips.
Aldric must hold her under a spell because even when he tipped and cradled her head with his hand, she didn’t stop him. It wasn’t until the dark prince brushed his lips across her succulent lips and sent tingles through her, that Islinda remembered one thing.
This was morning and she hadn’t cleaned her mouth.
With a shout, Islinda broke apart from his embrace and pushed Aldric, taken by surprise, off the bed and he landed on the floor unceremoniously. The dark prince groaned on the floor, not because he hurt from the pain, but from extreme disappointment. Islinda just ruined such a fine moment.
"By the gods....." Aldric laid on his back and stared up at the roof with a deep sigh. He suddenly wished Islinda was not human, so he would gladly throw her out the window without fear of her dying.
"Aldric," Islinda called unsure, leaning towards the edge of the bed and checking up on him with a concerned look, "Are you okay?"
Aldric smirked, "Of course, Islinda the modest human is back. I took chances with that kiss, you know. However, you have to admit, the moment was ripe for the taking, wasn’t it?"
Whatever sympathy Islinda had for Aldric vanished with that statement. It was a good thing Aldric did not know the real reason she stopped the kiss and he assumed she loathed him.
She kept on forgetting that Aldric was not human and that this mischievous Fae was not keen on connecting with his emotions. With his inner self. All of this was fun to him and she would be a fool to make a huge deal out of it.
Islinda collected her raging emotions at all, her face a blank mask. It was a good thing that the kiss did not happen - the peck on the lips does not count as one. She could not complicate her confusing feelings further. Emotional entanglement with Aldric was a big risk on its own.
"Do not touch me again," She warned him, throwing her legs over the bed and got to her feet, only to realize how tired she was. Her body ached all over.
"Ooh, someone is spiteful. Don’t tell me it’s because we didn’t go through with the kiss. Not my fault though, I didn’t push myself off the bed." He teased, wiggling his brow at her.
"You look like you want to fight me?" He asked, bemused.
"Well, stand in my way and you will find out! I might not be able to defeat you, Aldric, but I would provoke you enough to end me for good this time considering the Fae wine was not enough." Islinda spat out.
Aldric’s face turned sour at once. Islinda finally found something to hold over him, her death. Nor did he like to be told what to be threatened.
The world suddenly whirled and Islinda screamed when Aldric hoisted her off her feet, carrying her in his arms like a princess.
"Aldric, what are you doing?" Islinda panicked, having no choice but to hold on to him.
He smirked devilishly, "With the emergence of your recent threats, I have decided to take matters into my own hands by nursing you to good health. Isn’t it amazing, Islinda, a once in a lifetime opportunity of having the dark Fae prince at your service?"
You must be kidding her.
