"Maxi, what are you doing –"
"My shy Fae," Maxi at once rose to her feet and went to hug him. Prince Wayne, who was not a fan of being sandwiched between two couples, leaped from her arm on time before Maxi embraced Issac.
She threw her arms around his neck and kissed him right on the lips. While Issac would have let himself get lost in the feeling, there was unfortunately a situation at hand. He broke apart, much to Maxi’s chagrin.
"What now?" She whined.
"The gods help me, Maxi, your eyes," Issac panicked, looking around to check if anyone had seen it.
"Oh, don’t worry, my love, she knows about me now," Maxi giggled, her eyes flickering back to normal just as she ended the torment and Rosalind was left whimpering on the ground. Her clothes were soaked with perspiration brought about by the heat of her torment and she was pale.
"What have you done, Maxi?" Issac hurried over to Rosalind’s side and tried to help her, which didn’t sit right with Maxi.
The horse shifter scoffed, "What have I done? More like you should be thanking me for saving Islinda’s life."
"Islinda?" Issac was confused, his eyes finally locating the bundle on the ground, "What is that?"
"That is Islinda all wrapped up like a dumpling I ate once in the human realm," Maxi answered with a bit of snark, heading over to release her,
"I needed to have a leak when I stumbled upon the Wrry cat in the hallway. I didn’t think much until I saw the medallion held between its mouth which undoubtedly belonged to Aldric and I knew you gave it back to him earlier. I thought it was strange and intended to check up on Aldric only for the cat to lead me to Islinda’s room. Turns out that there were bigger forces at play, Aurelia was badly injured and on the brink of death when she told me to go after Islinda, and here we are." She ended with a dramatic groan,
"I think I just peed in my pants a little. "
Issac shook his head in both horror and slight amusement, already used to her ways. However, it still didn’t ease the grave look on his face, recognizing this was a dire situation and the sudden heavy responsibility on his shoulder. Islinda was almost kidnapped right under his nose and he had no idea. Prince Aldric would hang him once he found out. However, didn’t the both of them retreat for the night? There were so many unanswered questions.
Maxi unrolled Islinda from the sheet, a smile at the corner of her lips, "Good thing Islinda has pretty toes," She trickled the little toe that had been peeking out from the sheet earlier and helped her affirm it was her body.
"How is she?" Issac ignored Rosalind and came over to check on Islinda knowing it was the end of him if she died.
"Unconscious," Maxi said, leaning down and sniffing her, "And drugged. That bitch must have knocked her out to be able to carry her out of here. However, wasn’t Islinda in bed with Aldric? What happened?" She had the same questions as Issac.
Zaya blinked at the Fae in surprise, unfamiliar with her face and at the same time, annoyed by the distraction.
And yet she answered, "It’s not looking good at all. She has lost a lot of blood and the iron has weakened her body enough. It’s a miracle she held on this long and there is a need for a stronger healer if we want not to lose the little life. Which brings me to the question, where is the prince amid the pandemonium?"
"That is what we’re about to find out," Maxi breathed, hands on her waist.
Issac came in at that moment, his brows creased at the scene of Aurelia in her pool of blood and Zaya trying to save her.
"Word just got to me that Prince Aldric is in his room. Come on, let’s go and see him. I need to understand what in the Fae is going on." Issac did not wait and took her hand, about to pull her along when Maxi stopped him.
"Not so fast, my love," Maxi’s gaze drifted from his face and fell on Islinda’s sleeping form on the bed and roved across the room full of sympathizing Fae.
She drew closer and whispered to him, cautiously looking around, "Before we leave, get the guards in here to clear this room and keep watch on Islinda. I have a feeling Islinda was not meant to survive tonight and if Rosalind failed the task, there are chances someone else might finish it up. We cannot be careless, tonight."
