Chapter 20 The Baby en Her Belly
Chapter 20 The Baby in Her Belly
At the hospital, Jeremy watched Catherine being wheeled into the operating room and looked down at his sticky, blood-red hands. It was Catherine’s blood.
Jeremy leaned against the wall, staring at the operating room door with complex emotions. He had a selfish thought. He hoped the baby would be gone.
He wanted Catherine to sever all ties with Harry, preferably never to see him again for the rest of her life. But things didn’t go as he wished. The baby was remarkably strong.
It survived, and Jeremy felt an indescribable disappointment. Yet seeing Catherine’s relieved expression, he felt ashamed of his own darkness.
How could he have such terrible thoughts?
His phone rang. It was Harry calling. Jeremy didn’t want to answer, but malice suddenly arose in his heart. He left the hospital room and went to the hallway to take Harry’s call.
Harry was silent for a moment, then he asked hesitantly, “How is she?”
“So the great Mr. Zimmerman does care about her. I thought whether she lived or died had nothing to do with you.” Jeremy’s words were cutting. “But don’t worry about it now. I’ll take good care of her.”
Harry’s hand suddenly clenched. His knuckles were turning white. “Jeremy, she’s still my wife.
“Not for much longer, ex-husband.” Jeremy snorted and hung up.
Harry stared at the disconnected phone, then suddenly smashed it to the ground, where it shattered into pieces. Adrian stood nearby, trying to make himself invisible.
Harry suppressed his anger and gave Adrian a cold look. “Why did you take me here?” Adrian’s stomach dropped. Seeing the clear handprints on both sides of Harry’s face, he immediately lowered his head. “You said you wanted to go home, so I…”
He thought home meant the house he lived in with his wife. If Harry had meant the Zimmerman residence or Michelle’s place, he would have specifically asked for clarification.
He had wondered at the time why Harry was going to Catherine’s place when they were divorced, and he had even asked for confirmation. Harry himself had nodded yes. How was that his fault?

But Harry looked murderous right now, so he wisely kept quiet. Harry glanced at him. “This place isn’t my home.”
Adrian nodded. “Understood.”
Harry opened the car door and got in. When he thought about seeing Catherine in the hospital
in the same condition as before, he felt restless and rolled down the window.
He said, “Look into Catherine’s medical situation.”
“Yes sir.” Adrian glanced at Harry in the rearview mirror, then carefully asked, “Mr. Zimmerman, where to now?”
