"Let me walk you out, Ms. Stone." Catherine maintained her facade perfectly throughout, giving Michelle no reason to find fault.
Michelle studied Catherine carefully. She wondered if Catherine truly didn't know who she was, or if she was just pretending.
"Why are you looking at me like that, Ms. Stone? Is there something on my face?" Catherine raised her hand to touch her cheek.
Michelle smiled. "I just think you look a bit familiar, Ms. Quinn."
Catherine replied, "Maybe we've met before."
She escorted Michelle downstairs, and her phone rang at just the right moment. "Something's come up, so I won't walk you any further."
Michelle said considerately, "You go ahead and take care of your business."
Catherine turned and left. Her facade gradually crumbled. She still couldn't help but care. She also couldn't bear to watch them being affectionate together, and she didn't even have the courage to see Harry anymore.
However, the next thing Catherine did was stand by the window and watch Harry get out of the car. That busy man was actually waiting downstairs for Michelle.
Catherine watched Harry take Michelle's coat and hand her a water bottle. The gesture looked so natural, like they'd done this countless times before.
Catherine had seen that water bottle many times before. It was pink. She had once foolishly thought Harry had bought it for her, always hoping he would give it to her. But now she finally saw who it really belonged to.
Catherine couldn't watch anymore. Her eyes filled with moisture as she turned and ran to the restroom. Even though she felt terrible, she kept suppressing her emotions.
Breaking down and crying now would be too humiliating for her. She could only press tissues to the corners of her eyes to prevent tears from ruining her makeup.
Just then, her phone rang.
It was Rachel calling, and she was fuming over the phone. "Cathy, I found out that the homewrecker is having lunch with Harry at Kingswell Dining. Come help me catch them in the act!"
"I..." Catherine didn't want to disturb them.
But Rachel didn't give her a chance to speak. "I'm coming to pick you up right now!"
Then she hung up with a sharp click. Catherine stared at her phone, suddenly feeling a terrible headache.
