Rachel looked confused. "Why not tell him? If you're worried he'll give you trouble, I'll handle him."
Catherine shook her head wearily. "Rachel, I want a divorce."
She was the only one who had ever been trapped in this marriage. She didn't want to continue anymore.
Rachel fell silent for a moment. "Have you thought this through?"
She understood that for Catherine to say this, she must have given it serious consideration. No one could persevere in a loveless marriage forever.
"Yes, I've thought it through." Catherine touched her stomach. "I hope you can keep the baby a secret for me."
Rachel sighed. Despite feeling reluctant, she chose to respect Catherine's decision. "Don't worry. Even if you two get divorced, I'll still consider you my daughter."
Catherine said gratefully, "Thank you, Rachel."
Rachel stroked Catherine's head. "Don't worry about your family's situation. I'll handle everything. You just focus on having the baby safely."
Catherine nodded. The baby was an accident. The fact that Harry always used protection clearly showed he didn't want children with her. So she had no intention of letting him know about the baby.
That afternoon, Catherine took time off and met with a lawyer to draft a divorce agreement. She then dialed Harry's number. The phone rang for a long time without being answered until it finally disconnected.
She patiently called again. This time, the call went through.
Harry's impatient voice came through. "What is it?"
"I want to talk to you about..."
Before Catherine could finish, she heard Michelle's voice interrupting. "Harry, should we go here next for vacation? Hey, who are you talking to?"
"No one important." Harry hung up.
Catherine listened to the dial tone, and an indescribable bitterness rose in her heart. So she was unimportant.
When she tried calling again, it wouldn't go through. Catherine typed out a text message, but as she was about to send it, she looked up and saw a man outside the window helping his pregnant wife. He was carrying newborn supplies in his hand.
