My Best Friend’s Father Wants me novel Chapter 7

Enora:

I sat in the living room and my heart skipped a beat. The elevator made a pinging noise and I heard footsteps approaching the door. I took a deep breath and smoothed my skirt. It was time. Soon, I would see Mr. Wright, and he would give my clumsy self my flight ticket out of here, and I could go and tell Bridget what a failure I was.

I heard a keycard swipe and the door opened. I was met with the familiar imposing gaze of Mr. Wright and I stood up from the sofa immediately. His aura filled the room and I could feel his eyes baring down on me in tons. My body was quaking and I struggled to get the words to string correctly.

“Enora…”

“I apologize for my behaviour, Mr. Wright. This is my first job and… and I didn’t mean to be such a clumsy fool. I broke the company laptop I was given and I know that it costs a lot of money. I am ready to foot the cost of it and be sent home. I am very sorry I let you…”

“Enora, look at me.”

I raised my head and his brown eyes locked on to me. I gasped and felt something get stuck in my throat. His face was calm and cool and I realized that he was calling me Enora again and not Miss Lopez.

“I am not firing you. I understand that people make mistakes, maybe you, more than others, but I understand that it was a mistake and it wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t sneak up on you while you were busy filling my calendar.”

I gulped. Was he saying that all this was his fault? I had a feeling that I would break something sooner or later with the way I was going.

“Put your suitcase inside, Enora. I’ll be waiting here.”

“I…I… Thank you… Sir.”

I flushed the hottest shade of pink and dragged my suitcase back into my room. I may not have been fired but I just embarrassed myself in front of him again. I shouldn’t have been so quick to jump to the conclusion that he was going to fire me. What was so wrong with me?

I hauled my suitcase back into the wardrobe and went back to the living room to see Mr. Wright was still standing where I had left him. I stood frozen in a spot, silence hanging between us and I was unsure of what to do. Should I offer to make him tea? A do-over for last time.

My fingers flexed involuntarily as I remembered the feel of his hard-on through his trousers on my fingers and his deep groan.

Fuck! Get a grip! I just escaped being laid off. This should definitely be the last thing that I should be thinking about.

“Here…”

Mr, Wright reached into the bag her was holding and took out a box. He handed it to me and my hands shook as I collected it from him.

“...Put that on and look nice. We are going to dinner.”

“Dinner?”

He smirked a little as he looked bemusement.

“Yes, Enora. Dinner. I believe it is worth celebrating the fact that we won Mr. Gonman and Ms. Patel over.”

My brain was still processing all this. Dinner? After I broke his thousand-dollar laptop?

“We? I… I didn’t do anything. You did all the talking and I simply sat there.”

He took a step towards me and stretched out his finger to brush my cheek but stopped and put his hand down. His brown eyes were filled with a deep longing, and it set my heart ablaze for this man. I couldn’t believe that he was looking at me like that.

“You did plenty. And I have a feeling that Mr. Gonman has a thing for you,” He said with a light smile. “It is safe to say that your captivating looks played a huge role in his sudden change of mind. It takes a certain type of catalyst to change businessmen like him who are so deeply rooted in the classical business practices.”

I was stunned. I had done nothing but mess up since the day I got here, and this man was saying that I helped him win over a major client. Well, when someone had as much money as him, I guess one's perspective of looking at things is always very…unconventional.

I was reluctant, but I put the menu down and looked down at the velvety table. I was scared to look into those brown eyes of his. I wasn’t willing to test the hues of red my face could make.

“Look at me.”

His fingers tilted my face upwards and his brown eyes caught me unawares again. My heart was working over time, and my brain was struggling to catch up; his lips, his chiseled jaw, his eagle-arched thick brows. I was looking at a god!

“You don’t have to be scared or anxious around me. Let’s just enjoy the evening.”

His eyes traveled to my lips and lingered there. He wanted to kiss me. I could see it in his eyes, in the way he licked his lips. I wanted him to. Fuck! The things he did to me without knowing.

“Your meals, Sir.”

The waiter soon appeared and set our plates down in front of us. Mr. Wright let go of me and all I had left was the feel of his fingers left in the wake.

I turned my attention to the food. Lobster! I wasn’t sure what this dish was called but I know it was expensive. The presentation said so.

“Bon appétit.”

The waiter left and I was left alone with the god in front of me.

He picked up his fork and glanced at me, cooly.

“So Miss Lopez, tell me about yourself…”
