My Great Escape Led Me to You novel Chapter 431

Tristan Davis eyed the trash can just a few steps away and grimaced, pinching his nose in distaste. His usually handsome features scrunched into a knot. He quickly looked away, waiting for a moment. Judging by the pace of the two men chasing him, he hesitated, still holding his nose, then cautiously peeked out.

One glance, and his frown deepened. The two men were still standing by the café’s side entrance, scanning the street. He barely poked his head out before their sharp eyes locked onto him, and immediately, both turned in his direction.

All three pairs of eyes met. Tristan didn’t hesitate another second. He spun on his heel and sprinted down the sidewalk, catching a glimpse as the two men broke into a run after him.

They were professionals—he could tell by their athletic build and relentless pace. Tristan, for all his gym hours and privileged lifestyle, was no match for their kind of training.

He risked a glance over his shoulder. The gap between them was closing fast. This wasn’t going to work.

Scanning his surroundings, Tristan made a split-second decision. He darted across the street, picking up speed as he rounded the corner. When he was certain he was out of their line of sight, he doubled back, slipping down a narrow alley. He saw a service entrance behind a shop—no time to hesitate. He rushed inside and, as soon as the door closed behind him, pressed his back against it and took a breath.

He looked up to find a kitchen staffer blinking at him in stunned silence.

A supervisor, identifiable by her name badge, recovered first and approached with a tactful smile. “Excuse me, sir, is there something I can help you with?”

Tristan straightened, lifting his chin with cool composure. “I’m a customer,” he replied, voice calm but firm.

She nodded, gesturing toward the door that led to the dining area. “Of course, sir. Please, this way.”

He followed her out to the main floor, glancing around the bright, familiar interior. His gaze landed on a girl in the corner, and recognition flashed in his eyes.

So this is where she is.

The supervisor guided him to an empty table. “Are you meeting someone, sir?”
