Chapter 17
It took some effort, but Lila finally tracked down where Matthew was staying. She stormed into his
Swiss villa in heels, mascara–streaked tears still clinging to her cheeks.
Hands trembling, she pulled a stack of documents from her bag, voice choked with emotion.
“Matthew, you’ve misunderstood me. I only caused a scene back home because I was scared. You
refused to come back, so I had no choice but to come to Switzerland…”
“Look!” she cried, shoving the papers toward him. “These are the transfer records! Evelyn paid those thugs! She’s always hated me–she framed me back then, and now she’s using Simon to push me out!”
Matthew sat silently on the couch, cigarette between his fingers. He didn’t even lift his eyes.
Seeing no reaction, Lila bit her lip and stepped closer. “I know you blame me, but I’m a victim too!
She set us up, and now she’s…‘

Matthew slammed a thick file onto the coffee table and finally looked up, eyes cold.
“Forged bank records? Bribed doctors? Orchestrated kidnapping?” he said slowly.
“I uncovered all of that myself. Are you saying I fabricated the evidence to frame you, Lila? You
really think I’d still believe a word you say?”
Lila’s face turned ashen.
She glanced down at the file on the table–it contained every dirty trick she’d pulled over the years. Even the audio recording of her bribing those thugs to change their statements was in there.
She looked up, and her expression twisted in fury.
“Fine! Even if I was wrong, it was because she pushed me to the edge! She couldn’t stand seeing us happy!”
Matthew stood and looked down at her from above, his eyes filled with nothing but disgust.
“Get out.”
Lila lunged toward him, but two bodyguards instantly stepped in and restrained her. Matthew
didn’t even glance back as he gave the order.
“Put her on a flight back to China. If she dares go near Evelyn again, I’ll make sure she spends the
rest of her life behind bars.”

Lila’s screams faded as she was dragged out.
Matthew walked to the window and took a deep breath before calling his assistant. “Find out where Evelyn is right now.”
At that moment, Evelyn was seated in a cozy corner café, flipping through design drafts. Her finger tapped a specific detail thoughtfully. Across from her, Simon pushed a warm cup of lactose–free
milk tea toward her.
“Try this. No dairy.”
Evelyn blinked, surprised. “How did you know…”
“At the team dinner last time, you avoided all the dairy dishes.” Simon smiled, tone casual. “Just a guess.”
She took a sip. It was just the right amount of sweetness, and the warmth seeped from her fingertips straight into her chest.
Then the café doors were suddenly flung open.
Matthew stormed in, face clouded with rage.
His
eyes locked onto Simon. Then they dropped to the cup of tea, and a fury churning behind them.
“Since when do you care this much about other people?” His voice was low and hoarse, each word forced through clenched teeth.
Evelyn calmly set down the cup. “Mr. Carter is a professional collaborator–unlike certain people, who only know how to lie and deceive.”
