Chapter 149
“Okay.”
Katherine felt zero attraction toward Sean–in fact, she despised him. But Scott had threatened suicide to force her into this meeting.
She couldn’t fathom why an elite family like the Seans would pursue her, even sending a formal proposal through Scott.
Just imagining being entangled with someone like Sean made Katherine’s head throb.
In the car, Jacob wrestled with his own fears.
Last time at the kindergarten entrance, Sean had tried to grab him but got stopped. Since then, he’d often spotted shady figures lurking nearby.
He never expected Sean to hold such a grudge.
He had to find a way to neutralize him, or he’d end up in that monster’s claws.
“Aunt Katherine, will you marry Uncle Sean?”
Jacob blurted out as they neared the kindergarten gates.
Katherine was sipping water and nearly choked.
“Absolutely not!
He’s a total creep. I’d never marry him.”
Jacob sighed in relief.
“Good. I’m here. Bye.”
Katherine watched Jacob dart off after getting out of the car, lost in thought.
What did he mean by that?
Before she could figure it out, her phone rang. It was Sean.

Katherine reluctantly took the phone.
“Are you there?”
The man’s voice on the other end was magnetic.
“I’m coming right away.”
Katherine said, then hung up directly and told the driver to pull over.
Then, she walked in her high heels to the nearby restaurant.
The entire restaurant had been booked by Sean. When she walked in, apart from the waiters, there was only Sean.
The man hadn’t taken off his white coat. He was sitting by the window, looking outside. When he wasn’t speaking, he was elegant and handsome, no less than the one in her heart.
Katherine quickly averted her gaze, scolding herself inwardly for being such a fool.
A man like this is nothing but a pretty face.
She walked up to him: “Mr. Robson.”
Sean snapped out of it and turned to look at her. At 165 centimeters tall, with her hair in a bun and a baby face, she looked like a fresh college graduate.
He scrutinized her carefully, but he couldn’t remember when he had touched her.
He was about to ask Katherine when the two of them had met before, but the woman spoke up first.
“I’m only here because I have no choice. My father threatened me. I hope you won’t misunderstand.”
Katherine didn’t sit down, looking down at the somewhat languid man before her as she continued, “Please tell Albert I’m not worthy of you or the Robson family. Have him take back all the engagement gifts.”
Sean froze. “Engagement gifts?”
Only now did he realize his grandfather had tricked him. The old man promised not to push the marriage with Katherine if Sean focused on his hospital work–yet he’d secretly delivered the betrothal gifts.

“You didn’t know?”
Katherine sounded equally puzzled.
“Of course not.”
Sean’s gaze turned piercing. “I told you before–I can take the child. As for you, I’ll provide compensation.”
Child?
What child?
Katherine grew more confused.
Sean thrust a blank check toward her.
“Fill it yourself.”
Katherine remained frozen.
She couldn’t grasp his meaning at all. She’d come to clarify things–why was he offering money? Remembering Maureen owed Geoffrey hundreds of millions, she swallowed, hesitating whether to take it.
“You’re saying… I can write any
amount?”
“Just stay out of my life. And don’t scheme to contact my grandfather.”
Katherine was getting angry. “I’ve never even met your grand-”
Sean cut her off.
“I don’t care.”
Katherine couldn’t be bothered to explain. Since someone was offering money, why refuse?
She tested the waters with Sean: “I want ten billion.”
She’d give Reenic eight billion, keep two for herself. Never worry about money again, never live under her father’s thumb.
She’d thought Sean, young master and crown prince of Karaville, wouldn’t blink at such a sum. Yet contempt filled his eyes.
