Maureen was also slapped hard on the face, feeling dizzy with her cars ringing.

Seeing several tall foreign men approaching, she didn’t hesitate, got up and kept running out!

Her ears couldn’t make out what they were saying, and her vision was blurry.

Suddenly, she stumbled forward, but instead of the expected pain, her face hit a firm chest.

“Please, help me…” Maureen looked up, her words unfinished, and froze.

Though her vision blurred and her head spun, she recognized Geoffrey at once.

“Run!”

Mustering all her strength, she grabbed Geoffrey’s hand and pulled him out.

With so many pursuers–who they were, why they’d dare chase someone in a restaurant- Geoffrey stood alone. Instinctively, she had to get him out.

Surprisingly, the foreigners behind them didn’t give chase.

Outside, Maureen gasped for air. When she looked up, Geoffrey noticed the injury on her face. “What happened?”

Reading his lips, she understood his question.

“I’m fine.”

She pulled her hand free, unwilling to engage with him now, and headed toward the crowded area.

Geoffrey caught up in strides, grabbing her wrist. “You got hit?”

He’d been following Maureen for days.

He’d trailed her to the restaurant today, only to witness the scene in the hallway.

“Let me go.”

Maureen didn’t want him seeing her like this.

Geoffrey refused to release her. His large hand gripped her chin, revealing distinct finger

marks.

He glanced back at the restaurant entrance where two foreign men still watched them.

Understanding dawned. Ignoring Maureen’s struggles, he swept her into his arms and shoved her into his car.

Her hearing aid had fallen off, rendering her deaf to his words–a detail he disregarded.

One hand restraining Maureen, he typed an address with the other and sent it to a contact before dialing.

“Surround this place immediately. Find out who laid hands on Maureen!”

“Not a single person gets away!”

After hanging up, he told the driver to head to the nearest hospital.

Maureen noticed the hospital nearby, panic flashing in her eyes. “I’m not going to the hospital. Let me out.”

If they went to the hospital and discovered her pregnancy, it would be disastrous.

Geoffrey gripped her wrist tightly. “Be good!”

“I said I’m not going! Let me out!”

Maureen shouted at him.

Geoffrey froze, and even the driver stared in disbelief–no one dared raise their voice at their Mr. Sutton.

Everyone expected Geoffrey to explode, but he didn’t. He just avoided Maureen’s gaze, staring straight ahead with tightly pressed lips, silent.

Maureen clawed at his hand with her right hand, drawing blood from his fingers, yet he didn’t loosen his grip.

Out of options, she bit down hard on the back of his hand.

Geoffrey hissed through clenched teeth. “Were you born a dog?”

Maureen eased her bite slightly, meeting his eyes as if demanding he release her.

Geoffrey arched an eyebrow. “If you enjoy biting, keep going!”

Knowing he wouldn’t relent, Maureen slowly opened her mouth. Clear teeth marks were etched into the back of Geoffrey’s hand.

She turned to stare out the window, silent.

Geoffrey would rather she kept biting him than see her like this.

They arrived at the hospital.

Geoffrey handed her over to the doctor. Maureen explained she’d only been slapped, her hearing aid fell out, and now had ringing in her ears. She declined further tests.

After basic treatment and reinserting the hearing aid, Maureen regained awareness of surrounding sounds.

Geoffrey stood in the hospital corridor, phone pressed to his ear as he spoke with subordinates.

He hung up the moment Maureen stepped out.

“Thank you,” Maureen said.

Geoffrey studied her medicated, less swollen face and extended his hand. “Let’s go. I’ll take you home.”

She avoided it.

“No need. I’ll manage.

His hand froze mid–air while watching her solo walk out, hail a cab, and disappear toward her rented apartment.

Geoffrey’s car trailed hers. He recalled how at the hotel, amidst chaos and pursuers, she’d refused to abandon him–dragging him into escape instead.
