Chapter200
She also had major depressive disorder and had lived separately from Geoffrey for years.
Just based on that, they’d likely win the divorce case.
Maureen nodded. “Alright, I’ll get everything ready for you.”
“Also, if you have evidence of Geoffrey being with Andrea, or any proof of his
mistreatment…”
Katherine added.
Maureen understood.
“Should I file the complaint today?”
“Yes.”
Meanwhile, Geoffrey had just disciplined shareholders involved in secret dealings upon his
return.
He remained unaware Maureen had filed for divorce.
After work, he immediately returned to Pearl.
Maureen had returned home. Though the heating was on, she remained bundled up tightly,
curled on the sofa.
Geoffrey came in, hung his coat aside, and turned up the thermostat a few degrees.
“Have you eaten?”
Maureen lifted her gaze at his voice. “Mm.”
Geoffrey strode over, his lips quirking unconsciously at seeing her wrapped like a Holiday Stuffed Pastry.
“I haven’t eaten. Let’s go eat.”

“I don’t want to. ”
Since her health declined, Maureen feared the cold intensely. Back abroad, temperatures never dropped this low.
Geoffrey sat down, pulling her into his embrace.
“Warmer now?”
Maureen froze.
“Should we visit the hospital?”
Geoffrey pressed.
“No.”
Maureen refused instantly.
She’d undergone examinations before. Doctors said her cold–sensitive constitution required gradual nurturing.
She pushed him away, scurrying to the corner of the sofa.
Geoffrey’s arms felt empty, his heart hollowing instantly.
“I spoke too harshly last night.”
He paused, then added, “If Gareth doesn’t want those two children, I’ll bring them home.”
Since the paternity test confirmed they weren’t his, he’d thought long and hard.
Keeping Maureen by his side was all that mattered–he didn’t care about raising two more children.
Maureen stared at him in disbelief, unable to fathom his willingness to raise another man’s
child.
Geoffrey mistook her hesitation for distrust, adding firmly:
“I’ll provide them the finest education and life. But you must promise never to involve Gareth again.”
Yet Maureen remained unconvinced.

She’d witnessed his volatile temperament and endured his icy detachment firsthand
Her lashes lowered as she murmured: “Unnecessary. I’ll care for my own children.”
Each word deliberately widened the chasm between them.
Geoffrey’s throat tightened. “As you wish.”
When his assistant delivered dinner, Geoffrey didn’t touch a bite.
That night, he forcibly held Maureen to sleep against him.
She gazed vacantly into the pitch darkness. “Geoffrey, I don’t love you.”
His body stiffened slightly against hers.

Maureen continued as if speaking to the void: “Honestly, I still can’t tell which brother played with me in childhood memories.”
“Was I too foolish?”
“Had I known earlier, we wouldn’t have entangled for so long.”
Maureen talked until she unknowingly fell asleep.
This time it was Geoffrey who couldn’t sleep, Alex’s words echoing in his mind: “She’s always loved me! I was the one she should’ve married!”
Geoffrey finally drifted off only to dream of Maureen leaving him.
When he woke, Maureen still slept beside him, dawn yet to break.
Wide awake now, Geoffrey called Alex – but got no answer.
He dialed Heather instead: “Mom, where’s Alex?”
“His condition flared up again, he’s in treatment. Why?”
Heather asked.
Geoffrey’s gaze turned frosty: “Nothing.”
He hung up.
Heather had wanted to ask about Maureen, but sighed when the line went dead.

She asked her secretary: “Has Jacob returned to kindergarten?”
“The principal said he hasn’t been back since his father picked him up days ago.
The secretary replied.
Heather’s brow furrowed. “Any luck reaching Katherine?”
The secretary shook her head.
