The blizzard raged outside.

Maureen had a long, hazy dream. She couldn’t recall its details, only muffled voices near her

“She’s pregnant?”

“Yes, eight weeks along.”

Heather’s gaze shifted from anger to a glimmer of surprise as she looked at Maureen.

“Dr. Wilson, please ensure she receives the best care. Especially the baby–nothing can go wrong.”

How could Heather rest? Her son fought for his life in the ICU, and Maureen’s grandson must be protected.

She left to check on Geoffrey.

Maureen forced her heavy eyelids open, scanning the room.

Her hand drifted to her abdomen before dropping to her bandaged leg.

“Ms. Ramirez, you’re awake?”

Maureen’s lips felt parched. “My baby-”

“The baby’s fine. You’ve got superficial injuries, though the leg wound is slightly more

serious.”

The nurse added, “Thank heavens Mr. Sutton shielded you. The outcome could’ve been unthinkable.”

The passenger seat is the most dangerous place.

Maureen immediately asked, “How’s Geoffrey?”

During the surgery, she’d vaguely heard the doctor say he might die.

“Mr. Sutton is still in the ICU. His condition isn’t looking good,”

the nurse replied.

Maureen tried to sit up, but the nurse stopped her: “You won’t be able to see him now. Get some rest first.”

Still dizzy, Maureen lay back down.

Upon hearing she’d woken, Katherine and Justin rushed over.

Justin had been following their car when the accident happened, but couldn’t stop it in time.

He’d since identified those responsible.

Katherine checked Maureen over: “Reenie, how are you feeling?

Any discomfort?”

Maureen shook her head: “I’m alright.”

Justin stepped forward: “The driver who hit you has been arrested. Goes by Mr. Long overseas.”

“He was seeking revenge against Geoffrey.”

Justin explained how Geoffrey had put Mr. Long out of business abroad.

Maureen listened silently, finally understanding Geoffrey hadn’t let things slide after Mr. Long harassed her.

Her eyes filled with complex emotions.

Katherine held her hand and said cautiously, “Reenic, the court was supposed to grant the divorce today, but after Tyler explained your situation, the ruling changed. They denied the divorce.”

Maureen showed no emotion upon hearing this.

“I see.”

“Whatever you do, don’t let Aunt Zoe or the two children know about my situation.”

Katherine nodded repeatedly. “Don’t worry, I already told Justin.”

Justin stood guard outside Maureen’s hospital room.

Katherine stayed inside with her, listening as she mentioned Heather seemed to know about the pregnancy.

“What should we do?”

Maureen rubbed her throbbing temples. “I don’t know yet. It depends on whether Geoffrey wakes up.”

“I sneaked over to the ICU earlier. Bodyguards were everywhere inside and out–no outsiders could get through. Even when I asked about Geoffrey’s symptoms, the doctor refused to say anything.”

Katherine whispered.

Of course. Geoffrey was the backbone of Sutton Group. With him incapacitated, they’d never risk leaking information.

“Katherine, you and Justin should go rest. I’ll call if anything happens.”

Maureen just wanted proper rest.

“But you’re alone here…”

“The doctor said it’s just surface wounds–nothing serious. One night’s rest and I’ll be discharged tomorrow.”

Maureen explained.
