Chapter212
Maureen stared at the shocking injuries crisscrossing his abdomen, legs, hands, and face
Yet Geoffrey seemed numb to the pain, clutching Maureen’s hand while murmuring, “Reenie… I can’t see…”
“Will you be disgusted by me?”
Maureen still didn’t buy the amnesia story–after all, she’d pulled that trick herself.
She yanked her hand back: “Geoffrey, quit faking. I know you remember everything.”
Geoffrey’s hand hung empty in the air before blindly groping around again.
“Reenie, where are you?”
Sightless, he fumbled through the darkness.
Fresh bandages strained against wounds ready to split open.
His injuries screamed–that frantic movement hammered his skull like a boulder. When the sedative hit his veins, he collapsed into oblivion.
Even unconscious, his lips shaped the whisper: “Reenie…”
The doctor ushered Maureen and Heather outside.
“Ms. Ramirez, you must stop agitating the patient.
Our scans confirm Mr. Sutton’s amnesia stems from post–crash concussion and neural damage.”
“Not staged.”
“Such cases fill hospitals globally.”
Maureen replayed Geoffrey’s desperate fumbling, frowning. “Then why recall me?”
“During Mr. Sutton’s surgery, your name–Reenie–echoed nonstop through his delirium.

That’s the anchor.”
Heather never imagined her son would harbor real feelings for Maureen.
She couldn’t help feeling jealous recalling how Geoffrey had pushed her aside moments earlier, demanding only Maureen: “Dr. Wilson, will my son regain his memory?”
“It varies case by case. Modern medicine still falls short when it comes to brain nerves.”
The doctor sighed.
Meaning it wasn’t guaranteed.
“What about his eyes?
Will they recover?”
The doctor shook his head in difficulty.
Heather panicked completely. With Geoffrey blinded and amnesiac, what would become of the company?
After Geoffrey’s car accident, some shareholders had already smelled something fishy, waiting for the outcome.
Sure enough, voices soon rose from downstairs.
“Can’t I visit
my cousin?”
“Apologies. Without Mrs. Potter’s permission, no one enters.
“Don’t you know who I am?”
Edward grabbed the bodyguard’s collar. “Let me in, or I’ll make you regret it.
Heather listened to the commotion below, then turned to Maureen.
“He became like this saving you. You’re staying to care for him.”
With that, she headed downstairs.
Maureen heard Heather scolding Edward: “Our Geoffrey just fell asleep. Still want to see him?”
Edward, terrified of Geoffrey, naturally didn’t dare go up.

He could only leave in frustration.
He’d clearly heard Geoffrey had been in a serious car accident–how could he be fine?
Maureen returned to the hospital room, replaying the doctor’s words. Damaged bram nerves Real amnesia, not faked
Of course. If he hadn’t lost his memory, how could he accept becoming permanently blind” She watched Geoffrey lying quietly asleep in the hospital bed, lost in thought.
Too exhausted, Maureen fell asleep right beside Geoffrey’s bed.
As dawn lightened the sky outside, Maureen felt a large hand stroking her hair. She opened her eyes to find Geoffrey seemingly awake.
“You’re awake?”
Geoffrey’s hand stilled, awkwardness in his voice. “Reenie, I’m thirsty.”
Maureen felt uneasy with how he spoke to her now.
“Alright, I’ll get you water.
Moving his hand aside, she poured a cup of warm water and handed it to him.
Geoffrey groped for the cup, drank it empty.
Moments later, he spoke again. “Reenie.”
“Yeah, I’m here.”
“I haven’t used the bathroom in a long time.”
Maureen froze, fidgeting as she looked at him.
Geoffrey’s eyes were pitch black, relying solely on sound to locate her: “Could you take me to the restroom?”
Maureen snapped back to attention, reaching out her hand.
“Alright.”
