Chapter230
First it seemed coincidental, but after seeing Jacob sneak into Geoffrey’s room, he knew it wasn’t simple.
An hour later, Jacob returned to Katherine’s rented apartment.
Learning his mom was Katherine, Alex walked to the vase, stared at the hidden camera, and yanked it out.
Meanwhile, Jacob gaped at the video feed, nearly swearing out loud.
“This impostor’s sharp–found it crazy fast.”
He shut his laptop, then blankly stared at the photo in his smartwatch.
Katherine suddenly opened the door: “Jacob… asleep yet?”
Jacob jumped, instantly switching off the watch.
“Aunt Katherine, why didn’t you knock again?”
Jacob puffed his cheeks in annoyance.
“Oh, sorry, I forgot.”
Katherine approached him. “Jake, remember what you promised me?”
Jacob sighed dramatically. “Course I do. Pretend to be your kid to get back at your ex?”
He flashed a mischievous grin. “I’m great at getting back at people. Need a husband while we’re at it? I could use a dad too.”
Katherine’s eyes
widened. “Really?”
Jacob hadn’t expected his aunt to take him seriously. For her happiness, he thumped his chest. “Absolutely. He’ll blow that loser Tyler outta the water.”
“How much?”
Katherine asked gravely.

She mentally calculated–a guy handsomer than Tyler wouldn’t come cheap.
Impressive the kid had connections at his age.
“None of your business. Go sleep. Night.”
Jacob yanked the covers over his head.
Katherine sighed heavily. “My whole future’s riding on you, Jake. Their wedding’s next week.”
Muttering to herself, she shuffled out.
After she left, Jacob was indeed a bit troubled. He’d heard from Katherine that Tyler was handsome, though how handsome exactly, he hadn’t seen for himself.
But given Katherine’s tendency to gush over attractive men, he probably wasn’t bad.
Seemed he’d need to find some time to track him down properly.
Small Town.
The weather grew colder, and Zoe’s health weakened day by day. The only thing Maureen could do was stay by her side.
Yet Zoe worried about her. That day, she suddenly said:
“My dear Reenie, I’m craving dumplings from West Side.”
“Alright, I’ll order delivery right now.‘
Maureen pulled out her phone.
”
But Zoe stopped her: “Reenie, delivery will arrive cold. Could you go buy them for me?”
Zoe rarely made requests of Maureen.
Maureen nodded repeatedly: “Of course, I’ll go now.”
“If you need anything, have Geoffrey help you.”
She said it without hesitation.

“Yes, I know.”
Once Maureen was gone, the kindly smile vanished from Zoe’s face.
She stared at the tall figure in the kitchen and said coldly: “After all this time learning, you still can’t even cook.
Mr. Sutton, you might as well save your effort. Reenie won’t be back for dinner tonight.”
Hearing this, Geoffrey switched off his phone and turned around.
“You mean?”
“Mr. Sutton, you simply can’t give Reenie happiness now. Go back to your Sutton Family.”
If it weren’t for her health, Zoe would’ve chased him out with a broom long ago.
Geoffrey walked up to Zoe: “My respect for you is only because of Reenie. Please show some self–respect.
As the father of the child in her belly, I’ll never leave her.”
“As for this happiness you talk about, if you mean money and power, don’t worry at all.
་་
Zoe wasn’t angered by this: “You don’t know, do you? Our Reenie’s had someone she liked since childhood. They were childhood sweethearts, not someone you can measure up to.”
Childhood sweethearts…
Geoffrey’s hanging hand tightened slightly.
“Impossible. If she liked someone else, why marry me?”
“If you don’t believe me, go to the Local Diner. Better bring someone though – as a blind man, you won’t see anything.”
Zoe had been kind to others all her life, never offending anyone.
But now, she was dying, and for Reenie’s future, she wasn’t afraid to cross Geoffrey.
