“Get out… now.”

Her voice trembled with fear.

Geoffrey paused, leaning down to murmur in her ear, “If you want it, tell me secretly. Don’t go looking for other men.”

“Hurry up and leave!”

Maureen wrapped the quilt tightly around herself, curling up

inside.

As the man left, she caught sight of the dark bruises on Geoffrey’s waist where she’d pinched him–still visible.

Earlier, Maureen thought Geoffrey’s amnesia and blindness would make him easy to control. Now she realized this version of him was even more unmanageable.

Before losing his memory, Geoffrey had been arrogantly defiant, always looking down on others with condescension.

But now, he was utterly shameless.

Fearing Geoffrey might return, Maureen locked her door before bed and pushed the cabinet against it.

She slept fitfully all night, Geoffrey’s words echoing whenever she closed her eyes.

When she finally drifted off, Maureen dreamed she was a lone boat adrift on the waves.

She woke drenched in cold sweat.

Grabbing her phone, she saw it was already 10 a.m.

Thankfully, the housekeeper Zoe now slept in.

Just as Maureen rose, she noticed Gareth’s message: “Free this afternoon?

Ethan messaged saying he wants to see us. Wanna go together?”

Without hesitation, she replied: “Yes. Meet at the hospital.”

Ethan was staying at the hospital. Though there were nurses, Maureen would visit him daily.

Maureen changed clothes, freshened up, and went downstairs.

Breakfast was still warm in the dining room.

Maureen glanced coldly at Geoffrey reading nearby: “I’m going out. Back tonight. Make sure Zoe’s taken care of.”

If Zoe weren’t here, she’d stay out all night like Geoffrey used to do to her.

“Where?”

Geoffrey spoke abruptly.

“None of your business. Don’t follow me again, or get out of my house.”

Maureen felt she’d spoiled him yesterday. He didn’t grasp living under someone’s roof at all.

Now the Suttons discarded him, and Heather abandoned him too.

Earlier, Maureen called Heather mainly about Alex, but Heather refused to say anything. She only stated: “Take care of Geoff. Keep him out of public view. I’ll reward you.”

“But if you expose him publicly, don’t blame me, your mother–in–law.”

That moment, she realized Geoffrey, like herself, wasn’t his birth mother’s only child.

Maureen lectured Geoffrey thoroughly before leaving.

Now Geoffrey let her scold him without getting angry, just staring at her innocently with those obsidian–like eyes.

Even knowing he couldn’t see, Maureen still felt her heart racing.

In the hospital.

Ethan learned from his brother that their scumbag dad was now living at home, had a car accident days ago, went blind, and had his identity stolen.

“He totally deserves it.”

Ethan fumed with indignation.

Meanwhile, Jacob making a phone call in the corner added, “Yeah, that’s karma.”

“Too bad we didn’t get to do it ourselves.”

Ethan sighed.

Suddenly he remembered something and immediately told Jacob, “Bro, Uncle Gareth and Mom are coming to see me together today. I want them to get together. What do you think?”

Both brothers knew exactly how good Gareth was to Mom when they lived abroad.

Uncle Gareth wasn’t like that scumbag dad with ex–girlfriend baggage. He and Mom were childhood sweethearts–perfect for each other.

Ethan also knew Grandma Yun liked Gareth too.

But Jacob on the other end fell silent. After a moment, he said, “Is Mom willing?”

“Mommy definitely likes Uncle Gareth, she’s just shy. Don’t worry, I’ll give them a little push today.”

Ethan wore a confident expression.

“Okay.”

After hanging up, Ethan lay bored on his hospital bed, waiting for Maureen and Gareth.

At noon.

Gareth and Maureen arrived one after another. Ethan immediately started whining.

“Mommy, why can’t Ethan stay home with you?

It’s so lonely here all by myself. I miss you, I miss my brother, I miss Grandma…”

Maureen’s heart melted seeing Ethan’s big, tear–filled eyes. She felt a pang of guilt:

“I’m sorry, sweetheart.”

The doctors said Ethan’s small frame required constant monitoring here. Staying hospitalized allowed better control of his condition while awaiting surgery.
