Chapter270
“Are you Mr. Sutton?”
Betty asked cautiously, disbelief coloring her voice.
The person she’d negotiated with was incredibly wealthy–she’d imagined someone well past fifty. not this young and affluent.
Inside the car, Maureen caught Betty’s question–Mr. Sutton?
Soon, a man’s voice, warm and smooth as jade, drifted through the speakers: “Yep, it’s me.”
That voice was identical to Geoffrey’s.
But the tone held an unusual gentleness, softer than even Geoffrey’s recent warmth.
Maureen’s heart leaped into her throat.
She listened as Betty laid out terms over the headset.
To every condition, the man agreed instantly, without hesitation.
Maureen clenched her hands. Her heart pounded.
By the end, Betty ran out of requests–this tycoon was just too easy to deal with.
“May I ask your name?” she added, following Maureen’s earlier instruction.
Alex paused briefly before answering. “Geoffrey.”
So it was true…
Maureen hadn’t misheard.
Betty emerged stunned, rushing to report:
“BOSS, did you catch that?
The mysterious man is Geoffrey!”
Betty had lived abroad and never seen what Geoffrey looked like, but she knew the CEO of Corporate Giant was Geoffrey.

“It seems he genuinely wants to work with us. The big boss himself showed up–let’s go with him. Agree to any terms.”
Betty grew thrilled realizing she’d chatted so long with a super handsome guy who happened to be the big boss.
Yet Maureen felt uneasy.
Working with Corporate Giant was fine, but collaborating with Alex…
She hadn’t answered.
Betty’s phone rang: “It’s Noelle.”
Maureen gestured for speakerphone.
Betty switched it on and answered.
“Ms. Noelle, what can I do for you?”
“Professor Shi, I’ve decided. If you grant my daughter exclusive rights, I’ll perform a public dance. My secretary is announcing it now.”
Maureen silently listened, her clenched fist tightening until fingernails dug deep into her palm.
Daughter…
After returning to the hotel yesterday and running into Geoffrey, she’d forgotten to investigate Elizabeth.
Fighting the discomfort in her heart, she nodded at Betty.
Betty knew the response: “Agreed. We’ll sign the exclusive contract after your performance.”
She hung up immediately.
“Boss, isn’t this too much of a loss?”
Maureen shook her head. “It’s worth it. At least I confirmed something.”
She’d confirmed Noelle wasn’t incapable of motherly love–just not for her.
“Betty, thanks for helping these past days.”
“So I’ll fly back to Country Town tomorrow?”

After Betty left, Justin drove Maureen back to Small Town. En route, Maureen called someone to investigate Elizabeth.
Then, she searched Elizabeth’s name herself.
The profile popped up instantly.
Elizabeth, now 28, was a year older than Maureen and an internationally renowned dancer.
She’d started dancing at 4, topped the Royal Dance School entrance exams at 10, won the dance world’s “Oscar“-the National Dance Contest gold–at 12, and became a lead dancer at the opera house by 18. Her resume screamed excellence…
But Maureen froze at the parents‘ section.
Father: Raymond, prominent entrepreneur. Mother was…
Andrea’s mother was called Barbara Smith on search engines.
An hour later, the information Maureen paid to investigate came through.
As a public figure, Elizabeth’s details were easily uncovered.
Maureen cared about her exact relationship with Noelle.
“Five years ago, Noelle went abroad and met Elizabeth’s father. They fell in love, married, now she’s Elizabeth’s stepmother.”
and
Stepmother…
Maureen recalled Noelle’s repeated “my daughter” over the phone–unbelievable for just a stepmother.
She knew too well what kind of person Noelle was–cruel even to her own flesh and blood, let alone someone not even her own.
“What about her real mother?” Maureen asked.
“Do you mean Barbara?
