Chapter282
Maureen suddenly arrived, all eyes around fell on the two of them, even Alex, sipping tea in the seat of honor, looked over.
His Adam’s apple bobbed slightly, the tea in his hand seemed to grow warmer.
Maureen came to Geoffrey’s side, naturally took his arm, then looked at Edward’s somewhat defiant face: “Cousin, Geoff’s health hasn’t recovered, he can’t drink, you should have this wine yourself.”
She had seen Edward spit into the wine.
The Sutton Family really opened her eyes, bullying a blind man, is this so–called High Society?
Edward hadn’t expected Maureen to come, seeing her now in splendid attire, so different from the ugly duckling she used to be.
“If he can’t drink, then you, as his wife, drink for him!”
Edward just wanted to seize this moment to embarrass Geoffrey, who had humiliated him before.
He held the wine to Maureen’s lips, if she dared refuse, he wouldn’t let them leave the Sutton Family safely.
Maureen looked at the red wine before her, stared at the surrounding onlookers‘ gazes, and was
about to take it.
Alex stood up, his long legs carrying him toward the trio.
“Today’s New Year’s Day–let’s not make things too ugly.”
His tone remained gentle yet carried unmistakable warning.
Edward glared at the face identical to Geoffrey’s, reluctantly withdrawing his hand.
Why was Alex defending Geoffrey now, when he’d never taken his side before?
Weren’t these brothers practically sworn enemies?
With Edward backing down, the tension seemed to dissolve.

But even with her hearing aids, Maureen caught the surrounding whispers:
“Blind man with a deaf woman–what a perfect match.”
Geoffrey, whose blindness heightened his hearing, caught every syllable.

Yet he remained eerily calm, eyes crinkling with warmth. “Sweetie, I saved your favorite mini-
cake. See?”
Maureen looked down to find the exact pastry she loved on his table.
Was this still the same Geoffrey who’d stormed off at the slightest insult about his hearing?
Maureen didn’t know Geoffrey had been holding back.
He knew better than anyone that with his eyes gone, many wanted him dead, and this wasn’t the time for pride.
“Thanks.”
Maureen sat down, handing him a pastry too: “Have some.”
The sight of them eating pastries together caught Alex’s eye, his gentle gaze suddenly turning
cold.
When assistant Lisa arrived, she spotted Maureen and Geoffrey in the corner right away.
Despite being insulted by others, they didn’t care at all, lost in their own world.
Lisa watched Maureen closely, finding her truly beautiful, every move graceful and elegant, especially her eyes, like a clear spring, no wonder Geoffrey didn’t want to divorce her.
Elsewhere, in Nicholas’s study, Heather was getting scolded.
It was all about her tricking everyone, having Alex pretend to be Geoffrey.
Heather took the scolding quietly, not arguing back.
Only when the butler said it was time did she leave.
Nicholas walked out with his cane, saw Maureen had actually come, said nothing, had everyone eat first, then do the Family Memorial Ritual.
Heather then heard from the maid that Roy had arrived.
“It’s cold now, let the child rest well and prepare some delicious food for him.”

The servant nodded.
Ethan was led back to his room by the maid, gazing at the luxurious buildings around.
“Where’s Granny?”

“Madam is busy today. She wants you to rest in your room first and will visit after finishing work. Stay here tonight.”
The servant said.
“Thank you.”
Ethan looked utterly well–behaved.
“What a sweet little talker.”
The servant was instantly charmed by the adorable and sensible Ethan.
Maureen remained unaware that her youngest son had secretly taken a taxi here. She planned to have dinner with Geoffrey, attend the Family Memorial Ritual, then leave.
Unexpectedly after dinner, Nicholas stopped them: “Stay at home tonight.”
“I heard you’re pregnant?”
Nicholas asked Maureen.
Maureen couldn’t hide it: “Yes.”
Hearing this, Nicholas beamed: “Our Sutton Family finally has another heir.”
