Chapter292
“Geoflicy… Geoff,” she faltered.
Geoffrey’s expression remained stern.
To case the awkwardness, Maureen asked him, “Didn’t you go to work?”
His handsome face darkened further.
He hadn’t even left the house today. What work?
“No work today.”
“Oh, get some rest then.”
Maureen stood up.
But Geoffrey blocked her path. “Nothing else to say?”
Remembering last night, she said, “No. I have work to do. Not talking.”
As she moved to leave the room, Geoffrey pulled her tightly into his arms.
His Adam’s apple bobbed. “Maureen, remember this: I’m not Alex. I’ll never be like him.
She froze, looking up at him.
“You remembered?”
“No,” Geoffrey’s hand cupped her face, stroking repeatedly. “I hate being someone else to you.”
Her gaze shifted away. “I didn’t. Just a slip of the tongue.”
“Really?
Better be.”
His words carried a heavy warning.
Before she could process why he’d turned harsh again, his phone rang.
Seizing the moment as he answered, she broke free from his embrace.

Chapter292
After leaving the room. Maureen immediately went to the music room, closed the door, and started composing.
Geoffrey felt the emptiness in his arms and unhappily picked up the phone.
“What is it?”
“Mr. Sutton. I’ve noticed people lurking around your residence lately. We caught one today–he confessed Mrs. Potter sent him after some persuasion.”
said the bodyguard.
Geoffrey narrowed his eyes: “Did he say why?”
“Seems they were watching a child.”
A child…
Only Jacob is back now. Why would Mother watch Jacob?
After a moment’s thought, Geoffrey ordered the caller: “Dump him back at the Sutton Family.”
“Yes.”
Sutton Group.
A bloodied man was thrown before Heather.
Heather was trimming flowers, her gaze turning icy: “Discovered already?
Did you get the hair samples I sent you for?”
The injured man shook his head: “No time.”
“Useless.”
Heather flung her shears to the floor.
The man trembled: “The young master says stop sending people… or else… or else…”
“Or else what?”
“He’ll cut all family ties.”

Heather’s face darkened: “Out.”
After he left, she sank into worry.
288 Vouchers.
After seeing Maureen take the child away last time, Heather had been secretly having someone watch Maureen’s residence.
She learned that Jacob had been staying with Maureen for several days straight, and only recently had Katherine picked him up, which made her even more curious.
She’d wanted to check if Jacob and Maureen were blood–related, but couldn’t collect their hair or blood samples.
“Madam, you needn’t trouble yourself so much. Now that Alex runs the company, why not bring Geoff and Ms. Ramirez back to live here? Some truths will surface gradually.”
the secretary suggested.
“I’d love to have Geoff back, but he refuses.”
Heather sighed, “Maureen isn’t so easy to manipulate anymore.”
Then she remembered something.
“Who’d have thought Elizabeth snatched that musical piece last time? How did her blind date with Alex go?”
Heather despised Noelle as an in–law.
But the Yin family and Elizabeth’s birth mother Barbara were suitable candidates.
“Alex agreed. Everything’s at your discretion.”
the secretary replied.
Heather relaxed slightly: “If Geoff obeyed like Alex, I wouldn’t have to worry.”
“Geoff will understand your efforts.”
“I hope so. We must keep digging into Jacob’s situation.”
“Yes.”
Corporate Headquarters.
Alex had Elizabeth escorted out.

Chapter292
Assistant Lisa approached with a frown. “Alex, are you really going to marry her?”
Lisa felt that despite Elizabeth’s impressive credentials, she was too arrogant and opportunistic for Alex.
Alex took a sip of warm water, his gentle eyes betraying no emotion.
“I’m at that age. It’s time I got married.”
At his stage in life, some people’s children were already in kindergarten.
“But marrying just for the sake of marriage is too…”
Lisa’s words trailed off as Alex cut in, “Get back to work.”
With reddened eyes, she left.
Wedding invitations soon went out, including one for Geoffrey.
Geoffrey was working when Wayne mentioned Alex and Elizabeth’s engagement. He leaned back in his chair, silent.
“Should we decline?”
Wayne suggested.
