“You didn’t listen to me back then, so now you’re living this kind of life.”
Maureen didn’t want to hear this: “Do you have business here?”
Seeing this, Noelle stopped beating around the bush and came straight to the point: “I came to warn you, stay away from Alex. He’s now Elizabeth’s fiance.”
This was the first time Maureen had seen the selfish Noelle acting on someone else’s behalf, she thought of the hair she had taken from Noelle a few days ago and wanted even more to know if Elizabeth and she were truly biological mother and daughter.
“I married Geoffrey, and I’m also the Sutton family’s daughter–in–law. Tell me, how am I supposed to stay away from the Suttons?”
Noelle was speechless.
Maureen was too stubborn now, making her hard to handle.
Accustomed to commanding others as a wealthy lady, being talked back to made her fly into a rage; she raised her hand to hit Maureen.
Quick–eyed and swift–handed, Maureen grabbed her wrist.
“Do
I
you still think you can hit me whenever you feel like it?
gave my life back to you long ago. I’m no longer your daughter.”
With that, she shoved Noelle away.
Wearing high heels, Noelle stumbled back several steps, nearly falling into the snow.
Once steady, she sneered: “You say you’re not my daughter, and that’s it?”
“You still have my blood running through your veins!”
“As long as you live in this world, you answer to me.”
Noelle took a deep breath, glanced past Maureen into the room, and sneered coldly: “Defy me, and what can you do? The blind, the young, the old–do you really think you can stand against me?”

Maureen opened her mouth to retort when a deep, commanding voice cut through the air behind
her:
“Try me and find out.”
Geoffrey stood in the doorway, his arrival unnoticed until now. His icy expression sent chills. down one’s spine.
Noelle knew he was blind, yet instinctive fear gripped her.
She stiffened her resolve. “Kevin Sutton, I mean no offense. But control your wife. After all, a brother–in–law and his sister–in–law together… it would sound terrib-”
The word “terrible” died on her lips as Maureen’s palm snapped through the air.
Smack!
The sharp crack echoed, plunging the surroundings into absolute silence.
Noelle’s face flushed crimson as she stared at Maureen in disbelief. Her once obedient daughter had actually struck her.
Maureen’s hand trembled as she lowered it.
“Watch your mouth, Noelle. Next time won’t end with just a slap.”
Noelle froze, taking several seconds to process the insult before lunging at Maureen.
But this time, bodyguards swiftly pinned her to the snow–covered ground, stripping away all traces of her dignified composure.
“Release me! Since when do strangers interfere with a mother disciplining her own child?”
The guards ignored her struggles, awaiting Geoffrey’s command.
Maureen found the scene bitterly ironic. Noelle had spent years denying their relationship, yet now invoked motherhood to justify violence.
Maureen clenched her fists. “Get her out of my sight.”
At her words, Geoffrey nodded. The guards hauled Noelle away as Zoe emerged.
“What’s all this commotion?”
“Nothing serious. It’s cold out here–please head inside.”

Noelle was being escorted away when she saw Maureen and the nanny sharing a warm mother-
son moment.
She silently resented Zoe.
Maureen helped Zoe back to her room to rest, then told Ethan to get some sleep.
Though in his own room, Ethan kept secretly observing everything.
Remembering how Noelle had fiercely protected Elizabeth all day, Maureen returned to her room
and took out the hair she’d plucked from Noelle at the engagement party.
She dialed a number: “Did you get Elizabeth’s biological sample?”
“Just obtained it today.”
The
person on the other end was someone Maureen had asked Justin to find–someone who handled delicate matters.
“Good. Come see me.”
Earlier, Maureen had arranged to acquire Elizabeth’s biological sample to investigate her relationship with Noelle.
After hanging up, Noelle’s words echoed in Maureen’s mind, leaving her feeling weighed down.
