Geoffrey and Ethan had prepped a whole table of Maureen’s favorite dishes with the chef. When Ethan saw Katherine and Jacob arrive, he looked surprised.

“Katherine, Jacob, what’re you doing here?”

“We’re late, hope we can still join for dinner?”

Katherine’s arrival instantly brightened the mood.

“Of course you can.”

Katherine brought both kids to help out in the kitchen.

Maureen stared at the empty rooms, her appetite gone.

Geoffrey approached. “You alright?”

He wasn’t like Alex–good with words or comfort.

“You guys must be hungry. Go eat without me.”

“You need to eat anyway.”

Since Zoe’s incident, Maureen hadn’t eaten a bite. Geoffrey worried about her health.

Belatedly, Maureen rested a hand on her lower abdomen.

“Tomorrow we’re moving back to Karaville.”

Maureen froze, staring at him in confusion.

“Karaville has better medical facilities than Small Town, and it’ll be easier for Ethan’s treatment.”

Geoffrey wasn’t telling the truth.

He feared Maureen would remain trapped in this place forever.

She’d only returned for Zoe, hoping to spend Christmas Holidays with her in their hometown. Now that Zoe was gone, she truly had no reason to stay.

But going back with Geoffrey? She refused.

He loosened it immediately. “I refuse.”

“Tll compensate you. I’ll cover part of your debts, like restitution for the accident.”

Maureen pressed on. After all, during the crash, Geoffrey had shielded her, taking the impact himself.

For the first time, Geoffrey understood what a knife cutting through his heart felt like. This was it.

“Who wants your compensation?!”

His voice rose, anger barely contained.

Maureen was kissed until she could barely breathe.

She pounded Geoffrey’s shoulders hard, and the man loosened his grip slightly, letting her gasp for air.

Geoffrey’s voice was low.

Before Maureen could react, he scooped her up again and carried her into the bedroom.
