Chapter50
Maureen reached out and hugged her.
“Between us, there’s no need for thanks.”
Katherine’s voice caught: “How are things with Geoffrey now?”
“Same as always…‘
Katherine pulled Maureen into a tighter embrace.
“Reenie, I suddenly realize how true it is–loving someone means owing them.”
Maureen gave her shoulder a gentle pat.
“You and Tyler love each other; you’ll work things out.”
After comforting Katherine,
Maureen went to rest in the guest room but couldn’t sleep.
Truthfully, she envied Katherine for having mutual love…
Reflecting on twenty–plus years, she realized she’d never truly loved anyone…
Maureen remembered Geoffrey saying he’d take her somewhere tomorrow.
She texted him: “Mr. Sutton, I’m busy tomorrow morning. Let’s meet in the afternoon.”
After sending it, Maureen muted her phone and set it aside.
She didn’t know Geoffrey was still awake.
He sat on the empty living room sofa, staring blankly at the message.
Geoffrey didn’t reply. He tossed his phone away, frustrated.
Meanwhile, at the Sutton Family estate,
news of Maureen’s survival reached the Sutton parents.
Heather couldn’t believe it: “But Geoff had brought back her ashes back then. How could she be alive?”
Roger arched his sword–like eyebrows: “Are you that eager for your daughter–in–law to die?”
Heather retorted coldly: “She stopped being my daughter–in–law long ago.”

Roger heaved a deep sigh.
“If neither you nor Geoff ever approved of Maureen, why did you let him marry her in the first place?”
Heather choked up.
Roger stood: “Personally, I think that girl’s decent. If they’re really divorced, don’t go bothering her.”
Heather lifted her chin haughtily.
“As long as she stays away from our Geoff, I won’t seek her out!”
What consumed Heather now was Geoff’s situation–still childless after all these years.
That Maureen had ruined everything!
Seeing other Sutton descendants with their own children filled her with desperation.
Roger had always been insignificant within the family, more interested in womanizing than managing the company.
Without Geoff’s achievements, their branch would never have gained such prestige!
But if Geoff remained heirless, rising stars would inevitably seize his position.
These thoughts kept Heather awake night after night.
Over these four years, besides Andrea, she’d discreetly introduced women to Geoff. Yet none had captured his inter-
est.
Heather walked outside and called Andrea behind Roger’s back.
“I don’t care how you do it. Get pregnant with Geoff’s child, and I guarantee you’ll become Mrs. Sutton.”
The next day at 5 a.m., Maureen saw Katherine off.
Before leaving, Katherine was very nervous.
“Reenie, how do I look today?”
Katherine was naturally beautiful with almond eyes, an oval face, and gentle charm.
“Very pretty.”
“That’s good. You know, just thinking about seeing him makes me so nervous. I’m afraid he’ll reject me…”
“He won’t.”
Maureen comforted her: “Our Katherine is so beautiful. Who would reject her?”
Katherine nodded.
After watching her leave, Maureen went back to her room.

“Mommy.”
Jacob had gotten up at some point.
“Did we wake you?”
Maureen walked over, crouched down and asked.
Katherine had started getting ready at three or four this morning.

Jacob didn’t answer but asked: “Mommy, is Uncle Tyler a good person?”
Maureen thought for a moment: “Hmm, for Aunt Katherine, he is.”
She remembered meeting Tyler in college.
Tyler was their year’s campus heartthrob–very handsome, but his family wasn’t well–off.
Katherine and Tyler looked perfect together, but their family backgrounds were worlds apart.
