The next morning, she woke up, washed up, and found breakfast ready in the dining room.

In the past, she’d never had a meal prepared by Geoffrey, not even takeout…

“Wayne bought it. From now on, if you need anything for the house, just tell him.”

Geoffrey walked over, pulled out a chair, and sat down, speaking as naturally as before.

Maureen sat in the seat farthest from him, her gaze falling on the trash can beside them, which held the black–and–white photo and the cremation urn.

“Okay.”

Last night, she’d thought long and hard.

As long as Ethan was safe, she could stay here for now. It was the perfect chance to find a way to get Geoffrey’s sperm. Once that was done, she’d figure out how to leave.

Seeing that she was finally not being passive–aggressive, Geoffrey felt

much better.

Maureen sipped her porridge and asked, “About my friend…”

Geoffrey paused, then said coldly, “Andrea’s an artist at Media

Division. You can’t possibly not know Media Division belongs to the Sutton Group. Tell your friend not to post recklessly.”

Maureen’s grip tightened around her spoon.

All this talk was just to protect Andrea.

“My friend wasn’t posting without reason. Andrea’s song plagiarized a composer’s work overseas. She’s that composer’s lawyer,”

Maureen stated.

Geoffrey scoffed: “If she’s a lawyer, she should know exactly what’s appropriate to write.”

His mocking smile stung her nerves.

Unnoticing her tension, he added: “Besides, given her caliber, fighting an international lawsuit against the Sutton Group’s legal department? She’d lose ninety–nine times out of a hundred.”

“Thud!”

Maureen couldn’t take it anymore and slammed down her bowl and chopsticks.

“I’m full.”

She got up and started to leave.

Only then did Geoffrey realize she was angry.

“Should I have someone apologize to her?”

Maureen didn’t expect him to say that. Before she could speak, a cough suddenly came from the doorway.

There stood Wayne, looking shocked in the doorway.

The air around Geoffrey instantly turned icy.

“Why haven’t you left yet?”

“Mr. Sutton, I came to see if there was anything else that needed arranging.”

Wayne stood there awkwardly.

Back when Maureen was around, she used to take care of Geoffrey’s daily needs.

Since Maureen left, all the responsibilities fell on Wayne’s shoulders. Only then did he realize how difficult his boss could be in private.

He’d get angry if breakfast arrived too early or too late.

If clothes weren’t arranged exactly as specified, he’d scold someone.

Many hourly workers quit despite good pay–they simply couldn’t handle interacting with Geoffrey.

As Geoffrey’s personal assistant, Wayne had no choice but to take charge himself.

Doing so made him appreciate Maureen’s incredible patience with Geoffrey’s eccentric demands.

All those years, he’d never heard Geoffrey complain about daily life.

But now, he accidentally overheard their conversation.

It was the first time he’d seen Geoffrey try to soothe someone.

“You don’t need to come anymore.”

Wayne stammered, “Mr. Sutton, I’ll work harder.”
