Maureen had dinner at Katherine’s place and talked with her for a long

Fearing Jacob might overthink things, she asked Katherine not to mention Steven’s situation or her current stay at PEARL VILLA.

Another half hour crawled by, deepening Geoffrey’s restlessness.

He rose, ready to personally retrieve Maureen, when the front door clicked open.

His gaze snapped toward the entrance. There stood Maureen, draped in a cerise gown, stepping in on slender heels. Their eyes locked- silence hung thick between them.

Maureen recovered first: “Aren’t you asleep yet?”

Haven’t slept, haven’t eaten either.

Geoffrey’s mind was a mess right now: “Where did you go?

Why are you back so late?”

“Oh, had dinner at my best friend’s place.”

Maureen changed into slippers and walked in, then moved past Geoffrey heading upstairs to her room.

She found it odd–hadn’t he always had people tailing her?

Geoffrey finally snapped, his tall frame blocking her path.

“Aren’t you going to ask where I went today?

What I did?”

“What else? Work, right?”

He’d always spent weekends and holidays working–no need for questions.

Maureen was puzzled. What was wrong with him?

Meeting her clear gaze, Geoffrey felt inexplicably unable to stay angry.

He stepped closer, handing her a gift box.

“From a company client.”

Maureen stared blankly at the gift in his hand, not taking it.

Every time Geoffrey messed up before, he’d casually fob her off with client gifts.
