Obsession His Runaway Bride (Noelle and Adrian) novel Chapter 107

Chapter 107: Moonlight

-A few hours ago-

The office was quite except for the sound of the scratching of a fountain pen. Keegan Sergeyev sat behind his desk with his sleeves rolled up just enough to reveal the faint hint of ink stains and his dark, intricate tattoos that snaked along his forearms. His eyes were sharp and fixed on the papers in front of him, where his signatures were needed to seal shipments, alliances, and other business matters.

Out of nowhere, the door opened with a gentle knock.

Boss, came Xy’s voice, low and respectful as always.

Keegan didn’t look up right away. He finished signing the last document with an elegant flick of his wrist, then leaned back in his chair and finally raised his

eyec

Xy stepped forward with measured steps, stopping just short of the desk. I thought you’d want to hear this directly. The Blackwoods and Castellanos are holding a private rendezvous tonight. Grace Blackwood and Ulysses Castellano will officially be engaged tonight.

At the mention of Grace’s potential marriage, the pen he has been holding, slipped from Keegan’s hand and hit the desk with a soft click. For a moment, silence stretched in the room.

Then, slowly, a smirk curved his lips.

Well, wellhe said, his tone light as ever, almost amused. I am so upset. He tapped a finger against his chin, feigning deep emotional devastation. After all, he knew he didn’t need to. How dare they take my woman and hand her over like some

peace treaty?

He sighed, dramatically.

Xy blinked, trying and somehow failing to guess if his boss was joking or moments from declaring war.

Keegan elegantly stood while straightening his cuffs, and added with that same maddening calm, Let them enjoy their little dinner. I’ll pick her up when they least expect it.

And with that, he turned to the window, as though watching the city itself would tell him when to move.

Get the car ready, Xy. It’s going to be a long night.

The rooftop was cloaked in the pale light of the moon spilling across the stone floor. The wind was soft but sharp, brushing strands of Grace’s hair across her face as the masked stranger carried her with ease. He held her like she belonged to him.

As the heavy doors behind them closed with a final thudsomeone from his team, no doubt was securing the path. But Grace hardly noticed. Her heart was still racing from the fact that somehowshe wasn’t afraid of the man who was holding him.

When the stranger finally came to a stop, he began to slowly let her down with his hands firm but careful, as if she were something fragile. His palm lingered on the curve of her waist even after her feet touched the ground and the feeling of it burned through the fabric of her gown.

The moonlight finally exposed his figure, allowing her a better look. He wore all black, formal but tailored for movement, and his face was mostly hidden behind a sleek phantom mask that covered the upper half of his face. Only his mouth and jawline remained visible.

Whoare you?Grace asked in a steady voice despite the confusion.

The stranger didn’t answer. Instead, he took a step back while his eyes never intending to leave hers. And then, in one smooth motion, he bent a knee before her like a man paying tribute to a queen.

Grace blinked, startled.

He took her left hand gently, and as her fingers rested in his palm, he pulled something from his pocket. There in hand was a delicate, glimmering ring. The same one that had mysteriously appeared on her finger the morning she woke up from a good sleep for the first time.

You forgot this,he said. His thumb brushed her knuckle as he slipped the ring onto her finger and kissed it.Did you honestly think I’d let you wear a cheapass ring from that man who doesn’t deserve you?

Her breath caught. Her gaze snapped to the ringthe red gleam of it, the one she had not paid that much

attention.

Her mouth parted slightly in disbelief. So you were the one who gave me the ring?

Keegan rose to his full height with a slow, deliberate grace while still holding her hand. The moonlight caught the curve of his smile beneath the mask looking amused, and a little too confident.

Of course I did,he said, tilting his head ever so slightly, his cognaccolored eyes glinting with a teasing light. You think I’d let some other man stake a claim on you while I was still breathing?

His fingers didn’t let go of hers just yet. He lifted her hand again, brushing his lips to her knuckles once more and slower this time. That ring was mine before he ever entered the picture. You were mine before you even realized it, Grace.

She narrowed her eyes at him, but it only made him grin wider.

I had to pick something subtle,he added, giving a casual shrug, “nothing too flashy. I didn’t want to scare you off. But you wore it, didn’t you? Even if you didn’t know who it was from. His tone dipped, a little softer now.Part of you must’ve known.

Grace opened her mouth to speak, but he gave her no chance.

I figured if I couldn’t be there to hold your hand just yethe continued, his voice turning warm and reverent, then I’d at least make sure something of mine stayed close to you.

Then, stepping a little closer, he leaned in just enough for his breath to fan against her cheek.

You wore it while thinking about me, didn’t you?” His voice dropped to a whisperjust teasing her to the bones, revealing his playful side. It’s okay. You can say it. I won’t be mad.

He pulled back with a wink, his smile lopsided and infuriatingly charming. Unless you’re planning to never wear it again. Then we might have a problem.

Grace took a breath as her gaze locked with his in an unflinching and sharp look.

First of all,she began in a tone as cool as the moonlight, if you’ve got the audacity to whisk me away in the dark, knowing full well you’re stirring a storm between two of the most powerful families in this city-she pulled her hand from his and crossed her arms over her chest, -then you should damn well have the guts to stand beside me in the light. Publicly. With my hand in yours. Don’t you think that’s fair?

She arched a brow at him, her chin tilted with defiance as she tested him.

Second, she said, who exactly told you I’ve been thinking of you? I don’t even know you, The nerve. She spat.

Unexpectedly, she slowly began to take a step closer while her eyes narrowed on him just slightly.

And lastly, she murmured, if you don’t take off that mask right now, I swear to GodI’ll use your gun against you.

Keegan’s brow lifted slightly beneath the mask. A flicker of surprise crossed his features, gone just as fast, replaced with a crooked, proud smirk. His heart shouldn’t have leapt at the threat but damn, it did.

You think I’m carrying?he asked.

Grace didn’t even blink. Of course. The one in your shoulder holster, she replied coolly, tucked beneath that overpriced jacket of yoursright there, isn’t it?She replied as her gaze slid to his side before lifting again to meet his.

There was satisfaction in his expression knowing she had seen right through him. But what he did not expect was that she would actually recognize him.

Take it off, Segen.
