Chapter 132: Without Question
And then it happened.
It was subtle shift before a storm. And the silence that followed wasn’t quiet but rather it was suffocating. A pause in time where something ancient inside Keegan woke up.
Grace felt it before she saw it. The atmosphere thickened around him. The way he stood rigid and still wasn’t because of shock. It was fury restrained by will alone. And when he turned his head slightly, his voice was barely above a whisper.
“What did you say?”
Akim didn’t notice the change. Or maybe he did, and he thought he could get away with it. That was his second mistake.
“I said,” Akim drawled, “you’ve become soft. Look at you letting some woman sink her claws into everything you’ve built. You think your father would be proud of this?” He gestured toward Grace with dismissive disdain. “Of her?”
Grace didn’t move. She didn’t flinch. She’d heard worse.
But Keegan did.
And before Grace could blink to see, Keegan had already lunged forward so quickly Akim didn’t have time to step back before he was snatched by the collar and driven face first into the cold, carved stone pillar behind him.
The sickening crunch of cartilage and bone cracked through the still night like thunder.
Akim’s scream tore through the air as blood sprayed across the white marble. His legs gave under the weight of impact, and Keegan didn’t let him fall. He yanked him back and slammed him again, his voice a growl inches from Akim’s shattered expression.
“You open your mouth about me?” Keegan’s breath was fire. “Fine. I’m used to it. I’ve survived worse men with louder mouths than yours.”
Akim whimpered, squirming while his face was red with blood and panic.
“But you looked at her-” Keegan seethed, pushing him harder against the pillar. “You insulted her. You thought I won’t hurt you?”
His grip tightened until Akim wheezed.
“She’s the only thing in this life that I’ve got that’s pure,” he whispered with voice laced in venom. “And you think I’d let someone like you stain that? You think I’d let you speak her name?”

Keegan leaned in close, his face inches from Akin’s ruined one.
“Maybe it’s time we changed that smug face of yours,” he hissed. “Let’s give you some surgery. Wipe away that look that reminds me of my father you never deserved to resemble.”
Akim tried to raise a hand to shield himself. “Keegan-Keegan, please-! I didn’t mean it! I was just―”
But Keegan yanked him back only to shove him forward again with bone-jarring force. “You were just what?” he spat. “Mocking someone better than you’ll ever be? You’ve leeched off my father’s name for decades. You’ve done nothing. Built nothing. You are nothing.”
“I didn’t mean it-”
“No, you never do. That’s what makes it worse.
By now, Akim was barely standing, blood dripping from his nose, fear widening his eyes.
“Keegan-nephew-listen to me, I-” His voice cracked into a sob. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry, alright? I shouldn’t have-God, just don’t kill me, please—please—”
Keegan stared at him, chest rising and falling like a beast barely caged.
“Don’t flatter yourself. You’re not worth the blood on my hands.” He muttered, then he released him.
Akim collapsed to the floor in a heap, cradling his face and trembling like a grown man reduced to a sniveling wreck.
Keegan turned without another glance.
Grace had not spoken once. She had watched with wide, dark eyes but they weren’t afraid. They were steady and holding every piece of him. She saw his fury, his pain, and the wild devotion that had ignited all of it.
He reached her in two long strides and without a word, took her hand.
“I’m sorry you had to see that,” he said quietly, almost hesitant. His gaze flicked away as if ashamed and conscious. “I know it was…brutal. You don’t deserve that kind of anger. I didn’t want you to see what I can become.”
Grace tilted her head, watching him witfr disbelief. Then, to his surprise, she chuckled in a soft and genuine sound.
“Sorry for what?” she asked with a crooked smile “That was brutal and I like it. Honestly, I was about to do it myself the second he started iulting you, but you beat me to it.”
She gave his hand a casual squeeze and let go of his hand before she turned on her heel, and headed toward the staircase with the confidence of a girl who’d just watched her monster bare
his teeth for her.

But halfway up, she paused as she noticed he hadn’t followed.
“Keegan?” she muttered, looking back and confused.

He was still at the foot of the stairs, rooted in place, staring up at her like he was seeing her for the first time. His expression was in awe, and maybe in desperation, like her laughter had cut through all the noise in his head and left him breathless.
That was when he suddenly moved.
Grace barely had time to react. Keegan walked forward, taking the steps two at a time like something inside him had snapped free like if he didn’t reach her now, he might never get another chance.
Her breath hitched the second he reached the landing, but before she could speak, Keegan’s hands were already on the back of her head, pulling her to him. And then his mouth was on hers…urgent and fierce.
It wasn’t soft nor was it planned.
It was everything he’d held back exploding all at once. The fear, the rage, the aching need to show her what she meant. A kiss that said, ‘You’re mine and I’m yours and I don’t know how to do this gently anymore.’
Grace stumbled slightly from the force of it, but her arms went around him fast, fingers clutching the fabric of his coat like she didn’t want him going anywhere.
Keegan kissed her like she was the first real thing he’d touched in weeks. Like finally… finally he could feel her falling, too.
And God, it wrecked him.
Because for all the power he had, right now he was completely undone by the fact that she wanted him back.
So when they finally broke apart, Keegan rested his forehead against hers, both of them breathing hard. His voice was raw when he spoke again.
“I thought I scared you.”
“You did,” she whispered, smiling against his lips. “And then you kissed me. So I’m still figuring that part out.”
A low laugh rumbled in his chest, “Good. Keep me guessing.”
She gave him a playful shove, but her hands didn’t leave his chest.
“You’re crazy,” she said softly which made Keegan chuckle.
“For you? Without question.”
