Chapter 33: Hide
The very next day, before the sun could even rise over the horizon the low growl of engines shattered the town’s peace.
A convoy of black cars rolled into the streets as their presence commanded attention from those unlucky enough to be outside. Shopkeepers paused mid–task, pedestrians instinctively stepped out of the way, and an uneasy hush settled as the vehicles came to a stop in front of an old apartment building.
Mrs. Ellis‘ apartment building where Noelle stayed for days.
The doors of the leading car suddenly swung open, and Adrian Blackwood stepped out. He barely spared a glance at his surroundings as his amber eyes locked onto the building in front of him.
Although the people does not recognize him as a dangerous man, they knew him as Adrian Blackwood, the famous actor and the heartthrob of the entertainment industry.
The few early risers who were outside squinted at him in confusion, whispering among themselves.
“Is that-?”
“It’s Adrian Blackwood!”
“What’s he doing here?”
Some even reached for their phones, already eager to capture a glimpse of the celebrity in their humble town. But as men stepped out of the cars, their sharp suits and calculated movements killed any illusion of a casual visit and that excitement faded into unease.

Calix emerged beside him, stretching as if they weren’t about to storm into a poor old woman’s home. He took one glance at the place and let out a low whistle. “She actually stayed here?” He clicked his tongue. “Damn. Running away really humbled her, huh?”
But Adrian didn’t reply. He was already moving.
His men followed without question and they entered the building as if they owned it.
Mrs. Ellis, who had just woken up was still yawning when the front doors of her building suddenly swung open with force. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee lingered in the air, but the warmth in her hands did nothing to soften the chill that crept up her spine at the sight before her.
A group of well–dressed men in sharp suits flooded into the lobby.
Mrs. Ellis straightened immediately as her fingers tightened around her coffee mug. She may have been old, but she wasn’t
stupid.
This was not a friendly visit.
Adrian’s sharp amber eyes locked onto her the second she moved. He took a few slow steps forward and sternly asked the old
woman.
“Where is she?”
A heavy silence suddenly settled between them.
Mrs. Ellis didn’t flinch and didn’t even waver. She simply stared back at Adrian with the same courage she had offered the last time she met a man with too much power and too little patience.
Adrian studied her for a long moment. Then, he slowly took another step forward, closing the distance between them. His presence loomed and felt suffocating for his men, as he rested both hands on the counter and leaned in ever so slightly to scare the old woman.

“You think you’re helping her?” he asked scoffing. “You think keeping your mouth shut will stop me from finding her?”
Mrs. Ellis arched a brow. “Seems to be working so far,” she said, completely unfazed.
Calix let out a short laugh, shaking his head. “Feisty old thing, aren’t you?” He tapped a slow rhythm against the countertop with his fingers. “That’s cute. Really. But let’s be honest, lady–you have no idea who you’re protecting, do you?”
Mrs. Ellis exhaled, picking up her coffee again and taking a sip, not even bothering to mask her disinterest. “And you boys have no idea whose territory you are in right now,” she replied calmly.
Calix’s smirk didn’t waver, but his expression flickered just for a second. “Territory, huh?” he spoke and asked, “And whose, exactly?”
Mrs. Ellis let out a chuckle while shaking her head. “Let’s just say you might be wolves… but this is a jaguar’s territory. And if you did not slack off during you science class, you’ll remember that a wolf might be relentless, but a jaguar is an executioner.” she stated with a serious smile.
Calix blinked before exhaling sharply. “Damn,” he mused, placing a hand over his chest dramatically. “That actually gave me chills.”
His tone was playful, but Adrian didn’t miss the way his consigliere’s fingers drummed idly against the counter. It was a habit Calix had when he was processing something.
But before he could say more, the sharp ring of Calix’s phone cut through the atmosphere.
The easy grin on his face didn’t falter, but his movements were swift as he pulled the device from his pocket and answe without hesitation.
“Yeah?” he said lazily.
The voice on the other end was urgent. “Sir! We found her location!”
Calix’s smirk widened just a fraction as he looked at Adrian, whose sharp amber eyes had already locked onto him.
“Well, well,” Calix murmured with amusement dancing in his voice. “Looks like the little mouse left a trail after all.”
Adrian didn’t wait for further explanation. The second those words left Calix’s mouth, he turned on his heel and strode toward the exit. His men followed without hesitation with their presence disappearing as swiftly as it had come.
Calix let out a low whistle as he pushed off the counter, flashing Mrs. Ellis one last glance. “Fun chat,” he mused before slipping his phone back into his pocket and following after Adrian.
The door swung shut behind them with a final thud, leaving behind only silence.
Mrs. Ellis sat still for a moment as her fingers tightened slightly around her mug. Her lips pressed into a thin line as she exhaled slowly, watching through the window as the convoy of black cars sped away, vanishing down the street.
“Oh, child… you better hide.” She mumbled under her breath. ↑
