Chapter 41: Rescue

It was early morning and the sun glowed over the vast ocean below, with its surface shimmering like scattered diamonds. The island loomed in the near distance, surrounded by jagged cliffs and thick forest. From above, it looked deceptively serene–like an untouched paradise hidden away from the world.

But Valerian knew better.

There was no sense of peace inside the sleck helicopter that cut through the morning sky. The space was thick with tension and the loud hum of the rotors blended with the steady breathing of the men strapped into their seats. Weapons were locked and loaded, earpieces were secured, and all eyes were trained ahead.

Valerian sat at the front. His silver–grey eyes locked onto the island as it grew larger in the cockpit window. He gripped the armrest of his seat as his fingers curled tightly against the leather. His expression remained stern but beneath the calm exterior, his men knew who he was at that very moment.

“Mы приолижаемся.” Ivan spoke over the headset. (We’re closing in.)

He checked the digital display handled by one of his men, which flickered as it projected a real–time satellite feed of the island. The main estate stood at the center, surrounded by thick trees, watchtowers, and what appeared to be a fortified perimeter. 11

“Ещё три минуты.” (Three more minutes.)

Valerian gave a sharp nod while his gaze never left the island.

One of his men, stationed beside the open side door of the helicopter, tapped a control panel embedded into his vest. The encrypted frequency stabilized as a faint green light blinked in confirmation.

“Тепловые сканы?” (Thermal scans?)

Another soldier adjusted his visor, tapping into the surveillance feed. A digital overlay scanned the island, marking red heat signatures in key locations.

“Периметр охраняется. Около двадцати охранников патрулируют стены. Снайперы на западной башне. ” (Fortified perimeter. Around twenty guards patrolling the walls, Snipers in the west tower.)

“Время реакшии?” Valerian’s voice was flat. (Response time?)

Seven minutes was more than enough.

But suddenly, out of nowhere-

A sharp voice crackled through the comms. “Остановите приближение. Немедленно.” (Hold approach. Immediately.)

Everyone instantly responded and went still.

Valerian’s eyes flicked toward Ivan, who was already switching to a secondary encrypted channel.

“KTO TO?” Ivan demanded. (Who is this?)

“Как долго, пока мы не войдём в зону обнаружения?” Valerian asked in a dangerously calm voice. (How long until we enter detection range?)

“Менее двух минут.” (Less than two minutes.)

The men exchanged tense glances.

“Можно заглушить сигнал?” (Can we jam it?)

“Пытаемся, но это военного уровня. Любая помеха поднимет тревогу.” (We’re trying, but it’s military- grade. Any interference will tip them off.)

Before Valerian could respond again, another voice cut through the comms.

“Босс.”

The voice echoed through the comms. It was one of Valerian’s spotters, stationed in a hidden surveillance post miles away, watching the island through high–powered scopes.

“чTO?” Valerian’s voice was sharp, demanding. (What?)

“Я вижу движение во дворе.” (I see movement in the courtyard.)

Valerian’s silver eyes darkened as he leaned forward slightly.

“Что за движение?” (What kind of movement?)

The spotter hesitated for only a second before continuing.

“Украшают. Стулья, цветы, арки… Похоже на церемонию.” (Decorations. Chairs, flowers, an arch… it looks like a ceremony.)

“Kakoгo чëрта за деремония?” He breathed in irritation. What kind of ceremony?)

There was a beat of silence before the spotter finally answered in a more certain manner.

“Свадьба, босс.” (A wedding, boss.)

The words exploded like a grenade.

The men seated along with him stiffened as their eyes darted towards Valerian who suddenly went quiet. His eyes burned ominously as he gritted his teeth.

“Какого чёрта ты сказал?” (What the hell did you just say)

“Босс… Это свадьба. Кто–то… кто–то женится.” The man’s voice echoed on the other line sounding as if he regretted speaking. (Boss… It’s a wedding. Someone… someone is getting married.)

The air inside the helicopter became suffocating.

Ivan turned toward Valerian who wanted to speak–but one look at his face, and the words never left his mouth.

Because the man sitting before him looked like he was about to kill.

And that’s when Valerian spoke again.

“Двигаемся.” Valerian commanded sternly. (Move.)

“К чёрту радар. Полный вперёд.” (Screw the radar. Full speed ahead.)

The pilot didn’t need to be told twice. With a sharp pull of the controls, the helicopter flew forward, slicing through the sky like a bird of prey descending upon its kill. The powerful whir of the rotors thundered over the ocean, sending violent gusts rippling across the water’s surface.

Through the cockpit windows, the island expanded rapidly before them. The estate’s high stone walls and thick forest line were now in full view. Every structure, every pathway, every guard stationed at their posts–all of it was laid bare beneath them.

Three other helicopters flanked them in perfect formation. Inside each aircraft were Valerian’s men were getting ready. Metallic clicks of weapons being loaded, safeties disengaged, and final preparations being made. Snipers were adjusting their scopes, and their fingers were poised over the triggers of their high–powered rifles.

“Bосс, нас засекли.” One of Valerian’s men reported through the comms. (Boss, we’ve been detected.)

Of course they had.

“Активированы системы обороны. Вижу движение на территории.” (Defense systems activated. I see movement on the ground.)

From his position, Valerian could already see it–the guards stationed around the perimeter scrambling, pointing toward the sky, their radios undoubtedly lighting up with frantic orders.

Alarms would sound any second now.

‘Good. Let them panic.‘ He thought.

“Подтверждаю! Вижу вооруженных людей у входа в поместье!” (Confirmed! Armed guards at the mansion entrance!)

“Снайперы на крыше!” (Snipers on the roof!)

“Время реакции – пять минут!” (Response time–five minutes!)

Valerian barely registered the reports crackling through his earpiece. He heard the confirmation of armed guards, the countdown to impact, the movement of security forces scrambling below but none of it mattered.

“Приготовьтесь.” Valerian instructed before grabbing his own weapon. (Prepare yourselves.)

As they’re finally closing in for landing, Ivan immediately secured his weapon as his sharp eyes flicked towards

Valerian.

“Kак мы действуeм?” he asked. (How do we proceed?)

Valerian lifted his gun, disengaging the safety with a slow, deliberate motion.

“Пpocтo.” His voice was quiet. (Simple.)

He turned to face his men, his silver eyes as cold as death itself.
