“Are you okay now?” Alexei asked, his big silver grey eyes that looked so much like Valerian’s, began scanning her with deep

concern

Noelle blinked at him, tilting her head slightly. “Why wouldn’t I be?” she asked, brushing a few strands of his hair back.

Alexei paused in confusion and immediately glanced toward his uncle for help. Without saying a word, the two began communicating through exaggerated gestures.

Valerian who was still sitting on the side like an ignored extra, raised a brow and subtly motioned toward his arm, mimicking an injection. He then swirled a finger near his temple, signaling that Noelle was loopy from the anesthesia.

Alexei’s face lit up with understanding. His mouth formed a perfect “O” as he nodded dramatically before turning back to Noelle.

Then, with the kind of seriousness only a kid could pull off, he patted her head gently.

“There, there. You’ll be fine, my sweet mommy Noelle,” he assured her, giggling.

Noelle blinked at him, utterly confused. “Mommy?”

Alexei grinned. “Yup! You’re my mommy now.”

Valerian choked at his nephew’s words. “Excuse me?”

But Alexei ignored him completely, snuggling closer to Noelle. “You’ll need a son like me, and I need a mommy like you! It’s perfect!”

Noelle who was still too dazed to argue, hummed in thought before shrugging. “Well, I guess that makes sense.”

Valerian’s eye twitched. “No, it does not

Alexei cut him off with a gasp. “That means uncle Valerian is now my daddy!”

Noelle, blinking slowly, turned to Valerian, studying him as if seeing him for the first time once again.

Then, she gasped.

“Oh my God,” she whispered, pointing at him. “The doctor did marry me.”

Valerian let out a long exhale, ruffling his hair while Alexei clung to Noelle like a koala.

Meanwhile, Noelle continued to stare at Valerian as if she had just made the greatest discovery of her life.

“So…” she started, squinting at him. “If you’re my doctor… and you married me… does that mean…” She trailed off, her eyes widening dramatically.

Valerian braced himself. “Noelle, don’t-”

“YOU’RE THE FATHER!”

Valerian groaned, slapping his own forehead.

Alexei, however, cheered going along to whatever was running in Noelle’s head. “Yes!! I knew it! I knew he loved you!” He turned to Noelle, gripping her hands excitedly. “See? I told you! He stares at you all the time!”

“Alexei,”

Noelle gasped as if everything was clicking into place. “That’s why you wouldn’t leave my side! That’s why you held my hand! Oh my God, I thought you were just a devoted doctor-”

Valerian groaned louder, running both hands through his hair as he tried to think of a way to stop this disaster from unfolding

Noelle blinked, processing the question. Then, with the wisdom only a half–conscious woman could provide, she nodded solemnly. “Yes… It all makes sense now.”

Alexei cheered again, immediately launching himself onto Valerian’s lap and gripping his shirt. “Daddy!!”

Noelle clapped her hands weakly. “Aww…”

Valerian stared at Alexei, completely, utterly dumbfounded. He could see the disaster of his own stubbornness his nephew clearly inherited from him.

Alexei grinned, holding on tighter. “You’re my dad now! You and mommy Noelle have to take care of me forever!”

Noelle hummed. “That was part of the deal…”

Valerian could only look up at the ceiling as he let out the longest, most exhausted sigh of his life.

Meanwhile, Alexei was already making grand plans. “Okay! So we need a big house, lots of food, and a puppy-”

But his uncle cut him off, effortlessly lifting the boy off his lap with one hand and setting him aside like a stuffed toy. “Is my mansion not big enough for you?” he asked dryly, raising a brow.

Alexei giggled. “It is, but more mansions mean more places to play!”

Noelle, still dazed but fully invested in the conversation, suddenly gasped, her hands flying to her mouth in shock. “Wait… you have a mansion?”

Valerian blinked and looked at her. “…Yes?”

Her eyes widened even more at his answer. “Wait–you’re rich?!”

Alexei nodded enthusiastically, completely missing Valerian’s unimpressed expression. “Super rich! Like, scary rich!”

Noelle let out another gasp as her eyes sparkled with newfound excitement. “Oh my God, I really did marry rich. I always wanted

to marry a rich guy…”

Valerian groaned, dragging a hand down his face, but despite himself, a low chuckle escaped. He shook his head, rubbing his temples as if trying to process how they had ended up here.

Alexei clapped his hands excitedly. “See?! I told you, mommy Noelle! You hit the jackpot!”

Noelle turned to Valerian with an exaggeratedly serious expression. “Alright, husband, as your wife, I think it’s only fair that I get unlimited shopping privileges.”

Valerian huffed a quiet laugh, crossing his arms. “Oh? And what exactly do you plan to buy?”

Noelle blinked as if she hadn’t thought that far ahead. Then, she gasped again, grabbing Alexei’s shoulders. “A puppy!”

Alexei gasped back. “Yes!!”

It was ridiculous–all of it. The absurdity of the conversation, Noel’s dazed but dramatic reactions, Alexei’s unwavering enthusiasm. He had spent hours in agony, thinking he might lose Her, and now here she was, still weak from surgery, yef somehow roping him into the most nonsensical conversation of his life.

He should have been frustrated. He should have been scolding All for barging in, telling Noelle to rest instead of entertaining

a hyperactive child. But instead, he was sitting here, laughing like fool, watching them tear up against him as if they had been conspiring all along.

Noelle’s sleepy giggles mixed with Alexei’s triumphant cheers, and after everything that happened, Valerian felt a kind of warmth that settled inside him–one he hadn’t realized he needed

And Valerian could safely say that he wanted this moment to last, that was for sure.
