Chapter 67: Wiped Out

The halls of Raeburn Asylum were suffocating as the scent of antiseptic barely masked the underlying stench of decay. Of damp stone, rusted iron, and something dark and wrong. The flickering overhead lights cast long, warped shadows across the floor, making the already bleak corridors feel endless. The only sounds were the faint, distant murmurs of the other prisonerssome whispering to themselves, others muttering prayers to gods that had long abandoned them.

And then, there was him.

Adrian Blackwood.

He was a shell of the man the world once knew.

They had dressed him in the standard white uniform of the asylum but it did little to hide the sharp edges of his frame. His once -glowing amber eyes, the same ones that used to charm millions, were vacant, glassy, and void of the fire they once held. His lips were dry and cracked. His dark hair was disheveled and strands were sticking to his damp forehead.

He had been placed in one of the most secured cells, a room designed for highrisk inmates. A steel door sealed him inside, the reinforced walls ensuring no one could hear what happened behind them. No windows. No connection to the outside world.

He sat on the thin mattress in the farthest corner of the room, his back against the cold wall, unmoving.

Then, barely a minute after he had been locked inside-

The door opened again.

The heavy clang of metal against metal echoed through the chamber, followed by slow, heavy footsteps.

Adrian didn’t react.

Even as the figure entered, even as the door sealed shut behind him, Adrian remained still. His vacant gaze remained fixed on

the floor.

Calix stood there, silent. He wore no disguise, no mask to hide his identity. There was no need.

No one would come for Adrian. No one would question what happened in this forsaken place.

For a long moment, Calix simply stared at him. He had imagined this moment more times than he could countstanding before the man who had taken everything from his sister. He had envisioned rage, fury, and satisfaction.

But looking at Adrian now, there was none of that.

Just an empty man in an empty room.

And somehow, that was more pathetic than if he had been screaming.

Calix let out a quiet chuckle while stepping closer, his boots clicking against the cold floor.

C

Look at you,he murmured with his voice laced between amusement and disgust. Adrian Blackwoodthe man who had everything. Fame, fortune, power. The man who could make anyone believe anything with just a smile. He scoffed, shaking his head. And now? You’re nothing. Just a husk. A pathetic excuse for a man who used to think he owned the world.

He tilted his head as his eyes studied Adrian’s vacant expression. It was almost funny. Almost.

I thought about making you suffer,he admitted, his fingers flexing at his sides. Thought about putting you through hell after what you did to my sister. Torturing you slowly, making you feel every ounce of the pain you put her through. He let out a slow, humorless chuckle. But then I realizedwhat would be the point? Look at you.

Calix took another step closer, lowering himself to Adrian’s level.

You don’t even have a mind left to break, do you?His voice dropped almost in a whisper. What would be the satisfaction in dragging out your suffering when you’re already a ghost of yourself?

He inhaled sharply, leaning in just a little as his voice tumed cold.

But maybe Vasiliev was right,he said. Maybe Noelle is better off without us. Better off forgetting she ever had a brother who abandoned her. Better off forgetting you ever existed.

His jaw clenched.

But even so,he continued. I can’t just leave you here. I can’t let you sit in this cell, rotting away in your own filth, waiting for the day your mind pieces itself back together.

Because the truth is, men like you always find a way back. Always claw their way out of the darkness, crawling back to the people they’ve ruined, desperate for one last grasp at control. His eyes darkened. And I won’t let that happen.

Calix exhaled slowly, as if grounding himself before his next words.

“No,he murmured. You don’t get to gain back your sanity. You don’t get a second chance. You don’t get to go after my sister ever again. This is the least I could do.

His fingers twitched at his sides while his jaw tightened as he stared at Adrian’s lifeless eyes.

You die here.

Before Adrian could so much as blink, Calix moved.

In one swift motion, he lunged forward. His arm snapped around Adrian’s throat, locking him in a crushing grip. His muscles tensed as he wrenched him backward, pulling him into a headlock so tight that his own breathing came out slow and steady—

controlled.

Adrian, however, was not controlled.

The moment his body recognized the danger, pure instinct took over.

He thrashed violently. His back arched as his legs kicked out. His hands clawed weakly at Calix’s arm. Choked, ragged breaths sputtered from his lips as his body jerked and twisted, desperate to break free. But his movements were sloppydesperate and

uncoordinated.

Calix didn’t budge.

The pressure around Adrian’s neck only tightened. Adrian’s vision began swimming while his lungs burned as a strangled sound clawed its way from his throat.

You don’t get to fight back now,Calix muttered, his tone eerily calm against Adrian’s frantic struggling. Not after everything. Notafter her.

Adrian’s nails dug into Calix’s skin, his thrashing growing more erratic, but his strength was nothing compared to the iron grip that held him. He was already weakhis days of being tied down, drugged, and broken had robbed him of whatever strength he once had.

His body convulsed, his kicks growing weaker, his breaths more ragged.

But Calix held firm.

This is what you deserve,he said quietly in a voice devoid of any mercy.

Adrian’s vision slowly began to fade.

His hands that were once clawing, now twitched uselessly. His body sagged, his resistance fading into nothing.

And Calix kept his grip steady and unyielding.

Adrian’s body twitched violently one last time before going slack.is hands slipped from Calix’s arm and fell limp at his sides. His legs, once kicking in frantic desperation, stopped. The only sound left in the room was the ragged breath of the man who had just ended him.

Calix didn’t let go. Not yet.

He kept the hold firm, even as Adrian’s head lolled forward, even as the last flicker of life drained from his amber eyes. He had no intention of making a mistakenot with this.

Not with him.

It was only when he felt the complete absence of movement, when the final, shuddering breath had left Adrian’s lips that he finally released his hold.

Adrian’s body slumped forward, crumpling to the cold, unforgiving floor.

Calix exhaled slowly, standing to his full height. He looked down at the lifeless form beneath him, at the man who had once thought himself powerful..

But in the end, he was just another man.

Just another mistake that needed to be erased.

Calix stared for a moment longer before stepping back.

Then, without another word, he turned and walked out of the cell.

The heavy metal door groaned as it slid shut behind him, locking Adrian Blackwood away for the last time.
