Chapter 89: Segen
Chapter 89: Segen
The man’s transformation was almost unbelievable.
He was now dressed in a fitted gray shirt and black coat, paired with a simple yet sturdy pair of jeans and boots, the man before her looked nothing like the ragged beggar she had found sitting in that wheelchair.
The way the black overcoat settled over his frame only emphasized his strong presence, making him appear even more imposing than before. And she had insisted on it.
Now that he was standing before her, the effect was undeniable.
Grace took a step back, crossing her arms as she eyed him from head to toe. She tilted her head slightly and hurnmed.
“Not bad,” she mused, circling him like she was inspecting a prized possession. “You almost look like a person now.”
The man shifted slightly under her scrutiny, tugging at the hem of the coat as if unsure what to do with it.
“Is this really necessary?” he asked, glancing down at himself awkwardly.
“Of course it is,” Grace shot back, stepping closer and reaching out to adjust the lapels of his coat. “You’ve got the build for it, and besides,” she tugged at the fabric slightly, straightening it over his shoulders, “it makes you look… respectable.”
“Intimidating.” he playfully corrected, his lips twitching as though he was holding back a smile.
“That too,” she admitted, finally taking a step back.
He turned slightly, testing the weight of the coat on his shoulders. It was a far cry from the ragged clothing he had worn before, and for a brief moment, there was an almost unrecognizable expression in his eyes.
Grace caught the look and raised an eyebrow.
“You look like someone who used to wear expensive clothes,” she remarked, watching him closely. “Does this feel familiar?”
The man hesitated, his fingers twitching before he quickly shoved them into the pockets of his coat.
“I don’t know,” he said finally, looking away. “rather, I… am not sure.”
Grace hummed, unconvinced but unwilling to press further. Instead, she gestured toward the door.
“Come on,” she said. “Now that you look the part, we should go eat.”
He hesitated for only a second before nodding, following her toward the door where they entered. But as they passed by a nearby mirror, his steps faltered.
He turned his head slightly, catching a glimpse of himself in the reflection. His brows furrowed, and for a brief moment, he simply stared–almost as if he was looking at a stranger.
Grace noticed his pause and glanced back at him.
“What?” she asked, raising an eyebrow.
The man blinked as his gaze dropped to his feet for a brief moment before lifting again, hesitant.
“What should I call you?” His voice was quiet, as if he half–expected her to dismiss the question entirely.
Grace scoffed with a smirk tugging at her lips. “That’s what bothers you?” she mused, shaking her thought, she extended her hand toward him.
“Call me Gracie,” she said simply. “And since you have no name, then I’ll give you one…
Then, without a second
She trailed off, her mind sifting through possibilities, searching for something that felt right. And then, without warning, the

The man remained silent, studying her carefully. There was a flicker of curiosity in his eyes but he didn’t speak right away, Instead, his fingers curled around hers, the warmth of his touch joing her back to the present.
“… Then I will be Segen,” he murmured. But then, he tilted his head slightly and asked, “What does it mean?”
Grace hesitated.
His smile was too bright, too genuine for someone who had nothing not a name, not a home.. And for some reason, that bothered her.
“It’s up to you to find out,” she said at last, slipping her hand free from his grasp, then brushed past him.
Segen watched her retreating back for a moment as the ghost of a sinile still lingered on his lips, before following after her.
By the time Grace reached the cashier, the staff was already nervously eyeing her, likely unsure whether to address the situation delicately or not. The woman behind the counter hesitated before clearing her throat.
“Miss, will you be paying by card or cash?”
“Cash.” Grace pulled out her bills and slid it across the counter.
The staff member glanced between her and Segen while her professional demeanor faltered for a split second before she finally worked up the courage to say, “That was… quite the transformation.”
Grace smirked. “I know, right? Almost like he’s a different person.
Segen gave a quiet chuckle beside her. The cashier glanced between them again, clearly uncertain about the dynamic she was witnessing.
“W–would you like me to pack up his old clothes?” she asked hesitantly.
Grace barely spared the bundle a glance. “No. Throw them away.”
Segen didn’t react but only watched as the cashier nodded quickly and proceeded with the transaction.
As the receipt printed, the woman leaned in just slightly, dropping her voice. “Um… I just wanted to say, you’re really kind.”
Grace blinked, caught off guard by the statement. “What?”
The cashier flushed, looking down in embarrassment. “It’s just… not many people would go out of their way to help someone like him. I think it’s really admirable.”
Grace scoffed, swiping the receipt from the counter. “I didn’t do it to be admirable,” she muttered, slipping the paper into her wallet. “I just do whatever I feel like doing.”
With that, she turned on her heel, leaving the cashier blinking in confusion.
Segen who had silently observed the exchange, let his gaze linger on her a moment longer before offering the cashier a small nod of gratitude.
“Thank you,” he said simply before following after Grace, who was already walking out the door without a backward glance.
