Chapter 99: Red Roses

Chapter 99: Red Roses

Keegan Sergeyev had witnessed many things in his life. But nothing, absolutely nothing, could have prepared him for the spectacle currently unfolding before his eyes.

He was seated in the back of his sleek black car, a little far away from the Blackwood’s estate. Keegan raised a pair of binoculars and observed the scene before him with the intense focus of a man conducting a serious reconnaissance mission. And in a way, he wasexcept his target was not an enemy, nor was he gathering intelligence of any real importance. No, his entire attention was locked onto one person. His beloved Grace.

And she was suffering not from any danger nor from an enemy, but from the absolute torment of high heels.

Keegan’s lips twitched, barely containing his amusement as he watched her attempt to walk across the perfectly manicured grass in a pair of delicate silver stilettos. The shoes, elegant as they were, clearly did not belong on her feetat least, not when she was expected to walk through that.

With each step, she wobbled while her arms flailed wildly in a desperate attempt to keep her balance. One moment, she appeared to have a semblance of control, and the next, her heel would betray her, sinking into the soft earth, causing her entire body to jolt forward.

Keegan exhaled sharply, stifling a laugh as he continued to observe her. Every time she stumbled, she cursed under her breath, though he could not hear her from this distance. He didn’t need to. The way her mouth moved, forming sharp, undoubtedly foul words, was enough to paint a clear picture.

Она такая чертовски милая(She’s so damn adorable..) he murmured under his breath, his voice barely above a whisper.

His caporegime, Xy, who was seated on the driver’s seat remained still while gripping the steering wheel with the patience of a man who had endured far too much of his boss’s antics.

And Sergeyev who has usually pale complexion was now tinged with color. His ears were burning red as he continued to watch the woman who, against all odds, had managed to completely captivate him.

But then while he watched, one particularly unfortunate misstep sent Grace’s ankle wobbling at a dangerous angle. She flailed and her entire body stiffened in a lastditch effort to regain control, but gravity was unforgiving.

With an inelegant plop, she landed straight on her backside,

Keegan slammed his forehead against the car’s headrest, his shoulders trembling violently as he struggled to suppress his laughter. His body shook with barely contained amusement, and when he finally exhaled, it was in a breathless wheeze.

Oh, Божея умираю.(Oh GodI’m dying.)

Xy finally spoke with a stern expression. Boss. What kind of mission are we actually doing here?

Keegan who was still grinning, wiped the corner of his eye, where a stray tear of laughter had gathered. She is the mission.

Xy, unimpressed, glanced at him through the rearview mirror but did not argue. There was no point. Keegan refocused his binoculars just in time to see Grace huff in frustration, her chest rising and falling heavily as she glared down at the offensive shoes. With visible irritation, she lifted her foot and kicked at the ground.

The action was meant to express her frustration, but instead of making a statement, she only managed to drive her heel deeper into the grass.

Keegan bit his lip so hard, snickering,

Then, as if determined not to be bested by the footwear, she ripped her foot out of the sunken heel, took a deep breath, and with unshaken determination, shoved it back in only to lose her balance again.

Keegan groaned, covering his mouth with his hand, but the sheer joy in his expression was unmistakable.

He was so damn gone for this woman.

So Keegan took a deep breath to calm himself and grabbed the large bouquet of red roses with a letter on it, that was on the seat beside him.

Here Xy. Why don’t you head over to their gates and hand this over to Grace Blackwood. Don’t tell her who it’s from. Hm?He grinned that shocked Xy, breaking him out of his usually composed demeanor.

Sir?!Xy immediately protested.

Keegan barely spared him a glance, still grinning like a man thoroughly entertained by his own mischief. He twirled the bouquet slightly in his hand before shoving it toward Xy, the velvety red petals practically glowing under the dim light inside the car.

чтo?(What?) Keegan feigned innocence, his greyblue eyes gleaming with amusement. же не собираешься заставлять даму ждать, не так ли?(You’re not going to make a lady wait, are you?)

He then leaned back in his seat, watching Xy glare at the bouquet as if it personally offended him. He knew his caporegime was loyal, disciplined, and nearly unshakable. But this was testing the limits of Xy’s patience in ways no violent mission ever had.

And finally, Xy cleared his throat. Sir.His voice was tight controlled. You’re asking me, your soldierto walk up to a woman’s estate, hand her a ridiculously large bouquet of roses, and tell her it’s from a secret admirer?

Keegan turned to him with an easy grin. Mmhmm.

Xy inhaled deeply almost sounding exasperated. Sir, I kill people for you.

Yes, and I appreciate it.

I handle negotiations with dangerous syndicates.

Brilliantly, might I add.

I have dragged your injured ass out of lifethreatening situations multiple times.

Keegan waved a dismissive hand. And for that, I am eternally grateful.

Xy looked up as if pleading the heavens for patience. But thisthis is what you ask of me?

Keegan smirked, tilting his head. Come on, it’s not like I’m sending you into a warzone. It’s just a woman.

Xy shot him a flat look. A Blackwood woman.

Keegan’s smirk grew. Exactly. That’s what makes it fun.

Xy pinched the bridge of his nose. Why can

you give it to her yourself?

Keegan clicked his tongue, his expression suddenly turning contemplative. Hm. Let’s see. Maybe because I’m a very busy man? Or maybe because I want to see her reaction from here without the risk of getting smacked in the face with said bouquet?”

Xy exhaled sharply, his patience thinning. Or maybe because you’re a coward?

Keegan gasped theatrically. How dare you?!He clutched his chest as if physically wounded. I am a man of great strategy, Xy. There’s a difference!

Xy stared at him, unimpressed.

Keegan leaned closer, dropping his voice to a conspiratorial whisper. Besideswhat if she likes them?

Xy blinked. Then, slowly, a smirk twitched at the corner of his mouth. And what if she throws them back at me?Keegan waved a hand. Then you run, my friend. And run fast.

I swear, if I get shot doing this, I’m haunting you in the afterlife.

Keegan grinned, lifting his binoculars again. Noted. Now, off you go, Romeo.

Xy sighed heavily, staring at the bouquet once more. Finally, with the expression of a man walking toward his execution, he opened the car door.

Я должен был уйти в отставку два года назад.(I should have retired two years ago.) He muttered under his breath.
