Chapter 238: Imprisonment

(Elena Blackwood’s POV)

I retracted my gaze and said lightly, I was just going downstairs.

The elevator doors began to close between us. Marcus’s golden eyes never left mine until the steel barrier cut off our connection completely.

My heart hammered against my ribs as I waited for the next elevator. The scent of his cologne still lingered in the hallway, making my wolf restless beneath my skin.

(God’s POV)

Inside the descending elevator, Mia noticed Marcus’s tense expression. His jaw was clenched tight, and his hands were balled into fists at his sides.

Marcus, she said meaningfully, would you really let my brother have Elena?

Marcus remained silent, his golden eyes fixed on the floor numbers changing above the

doors.

Mia continued with a knowing smile. You still have a chance, you know. Before my brother succeeds in winning Elena’s heart completely.

The elevator reached the ground floor with a soft chime. Marcus stepped out without responding to her suggestion.

(Elena Blackwood’s POV)

Back at the Northern Territory Central Healing Institute, I was greeted by Rachel Thompson near the reception desk. Her face was creased with worry lines I hadn’t seen before.

Elena, I’m so glad you’re here,” she said anxiously. “I’ve been trying to reach Celeste Harrison for three days now. Her phone goes straight to voicemail.

I frowned at the concern in her voice. Maybe she’s just busy with pack duties?

Rachel shook her head vigorously. No, this isn’t like her. She always returns my calls within hours.

She lowered her voice and stepped closer. Before she disappeared, Celeste told me her family was pressuring her into an arranged mating. She was terrified about it.

My blood ran cold. Arranged matings were still common among the pack elite, but they were rarely forced against a shewolf’s will.

Do you think the Harrison Pack would resort to imprisoning her?I asked.

Rachel’s eyes widened with fear. I don’t know, but I’m scared something terrible has happened to her.

I made a quick decision. I’ll visit the Harrison family compound this afternoon. Maybe they’ll have answers.

(Elena Blackwood’s POV)

The Harrison family estate sat on sprawling grounds in the Northern Territory’s most prestigious district. Ancient oak trees lined the circular driveway, their branches creating shadows across the manicured lawns.

I rang the doorbell and waited. A middleaged woman in a simple gray dress answered the door.

I’m looking for Chairman Harrison or Mrs. Harrison,” I said politely. I’m Elena Blackwood, a friend of Celeste’s.

The nanny’s expression grew uncomfortable. I’m sorry, Miss Blackwood. Neither the Chairman nor Mrs. Harrison are home today.

What about Celeste? Is she available?

The woman’s eyes darted away from mine. Miss Celeste moved out a while ago. She rarely returns home anymore.

I pressed gently. When she does visit, how does she seem?

The nanny hesitated before answering. There are often heated arguments between Miss Celeste and her parents when she comes by. Very loud disagreements about her future.

My heart sank. This confirmed Rachel’s fears about family pressure.

Do you know where she might be staying now?I asked.

The nanny shook her head quickly. I’m sorry, I don’t have that information.

As I walked back to my car, I wondered desperately where Celeste could be. The Harrison Pack was powerful, but would they really imprison their own daughter?

At the Cross family estate on the outskirts of the Northern Territory, Celeste Harrison curled up in bed with her back to the door. Silverlaced restraints around her wrists dampened her werewolf strength, leaving her feeling weak and vulnerable.

Although she was very hungry and her body ached from days without proper food, she still didn’t even look at the meal the hired caregiver brought in.

Miss Harrison, you need to eat something, the caregiver pleaded. You’ll make yourself sick.

Celeste’s voice was hoarse but defiant. I would rather die than be held captive here.

The caregiver set the tray on the bedside table and left quietly. The untouched food grew cold in the dim room.
