Once Felicity had been taken to the infirmary, he’d finally break the news to his father–that his melodramatic mother was still at the bottom of the hill.
The head teacher had no desire to argue with an injured woman. She simply said, “Miss Thompson, the school will conduct a thorough investigation into your accident.”
So you think I’m lying, don’t you?”
Felicity sat up abruptly and slapped the teacher across the face.
Still crouched beside Felicity, the teacher reeled in shock, her mouth agape as she stared at her.
Unbelievable. How could someone be so utterly lacking in manners?
“Felicity!” Harrison’s voice was low and sharp.
Sitting on the ground, Felicity glared up at him and snapped, “What are you yelling at me for? You don’t even treat me like a friend, do you?”
The teacher opened her mouth, but at Felicity’s words, she pressed her lips together and fell silent.
There’s no point arguing with a fool; they’ll only drag you down to their level.
Felicity, still fuming, thumped Harrison’s thigh. “Your father’s being accused of something he didn’t do, and you don’t even defend me?”
Harrison’s eyes narrowed as he noticed the red marks around Felicity’s neck. “What happened to your neck?”
Feeling the stinging pain circling her throat, Felicity longed to tattle to Harrison–to tell him Selene had tried to strangle her.
If she did, Harrison would surely take her side and punish Selene.
But right now, she had to keep Selene’s involvement a secret from everyone.
After all, ever since Selene and that little mute kid had tumbled into the bushes, there’d been not a peep from either of them. Odds were, they’d both met with disaster.
At that thought, Felicity lowered her head to hide the cold smirk threatening to surface.
Chapter 199
She’d gotten rid of Altair, dealt a heavy blow to Leo, and boosted Harrison’s standing within the Vaughn family. She’d also eliminated a potential rival for her future children with Harrison.
By getting rid of Selene, she’d snuffed out the last of her sister’s shine–and she couldn’t bear the thought of living in her elder sister’s shadow any longer.
