Rebirth in 1986: Unforgettable Regrets novel Chapter 26

Chapter 26 - 26: Unacceptable

"Xu Zhenzhen, which one have you taken a fancy to?" Tang Yue stepped forward, putting herself between Tang Mingli and Liu Li, whose demeanor made it hard for her not to suspect something else was going on.

"Uncle, why don't you go tidy up the clothes?" Tang Yue instructed, and then started introducing items to Xu Zhenzhen.

Her voice was tender and gentle, and her face bore a sweet smile, making people feel as if they were basking in the spring breeze. Liu Li praised, "Xiao Yue, you really are pretty."

"Thank you for the compliment, Auntie." Tang Yue's reply was confident and natural. She didn't exactly have a high opinion of Xu Zhenzhen's aunt, but you couldn't really tell from her face.

Xu Zhenzhen chose the skirt she liked and, unlike before, she didn't show off in front of Tang Yue. After buying the skirt, Xu Zhenzhen quickly left with Liu Li.

"Zhenzhen, Tang Yue's uncle isn't married yet, right?" Excitement flickered in Liu Li's eyes.

"No." Xu Zhenzhen's eyes brightened, and she looked at Liu Li, asking, "Auntie, you're not thinking of..."

Liu Li chuckled without answering and instead asked back, "He runs a stall here; he must make a good sum of money, right?"

"I don't know." Xu Zhenzhen shook her head. She really didn't know. If it hadn't been for her coming out to buy clothes today, she might not have known that Tang Yue was actually helping run a stall here.

On usual days at school, Tang Yue dressed very simply, and Xu Zhenzhen didn't think much of it. But seeing her today, she couldn't help feeling that Tang Yue was becoming more and more distant, and in front of those lively eyes, she felt somewhat inferior.

This feeling made her very uncomfortable. In the past, wherever she was, she was the one who was talked about and admired by everyone.

Now, everything had changed.

When classmates talked about their Year Ten class, they always mentioned Tang Yue's name.

"Zhenzhen, can you do your auntie a favor and find out more?" Liu Li said affectionately while holding Xu Zhenzhen's hand, the smile on her face too purposeful.

Even Xu Zhenzhen understood her aunt's intentions instantly.

"Uncle, Xu Zhenzhen's aunt seems to have taken a liking to you." During a lull, Tang Yue looked at Tang Mingli, feigning casual curiosity.

"Who?" Tang Mingli looked blankly at Tang Yue. After a busy day, he had only focused on how many clothes they sold, and as for the aunt Tang Yue mentioned, he hadn't paid any attention.

"What does Xu Zhenzhen's aunt look like?"

Tang Mingli frowned, trying to recall, but couldn't think of anything.

'Pfft—'

Tang Yue couldn't help but laugh. Liu Li truly had wasted her efforts. In her past life, she had heard some news about Liu Li. Liu Li was the type whose eyes lit up at the sight of money, who would actively latch on to anyone who could pay well.

Liu Li was only a few years older than Xu Zhenzhen but led a very disorganized private life. Later, Tang Yue heard that Liu Li had contracted some venereal disease, and Xu Zhenzhen even asked her for a loan.

"Cough." Tang Yue had her laugh and cleared her throat before saying, "Uncle, Xu Zhenzhen's aunt has her sights set on you."

"Really?" Tang Mingli asked incredulously. "What does she look like? Is she pretty?"

Tang Yue made a face of disgust and said, "Uncle, if she were a stunning beauty, would you have chased after her on the spot?"

"Nonsense." Tang Mingli rolled his eyes and said, "Xiao Yue, I'm already 22 and still single. Isn't your uncle's lifelong happiness important?"

"..."

Tang Yue tried to contain a smile and said, "Uncle, your standards really aren't high, are they? Are you saying you'd agree to just any woman?"

"Tang Yue!"

Tang Yue clutched her knocked forehead, eyes bulging out. Through these recent days of interaction, the uncle and niece seemed to have grown even closer. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
