"We’ve only bumped into each other and exchanged a few words; we’re hardly acquainted," Tang Yue explained, spreading her hands helplessly when she saw Tang Mingli’s disbelief. "Uncle, honestly, I’ve barely spoken to him at all."
"Xiao Yue, I know you have a sense of propriety."
Tang Mingli stopped there. Besides, he trusted Tang Yue. His only concern was whether Shen Yunfei might resort to some despicable tactics.
The fashion show began shortly.
It was the first time both Tang Mingli and Peng Yufei attended one, and they watched with rapt attention.
After watching the show, Tang Mingli had many thoughts but wasn’t sure how to articulate them.
Peng Yufei felt even more so, learning a great deal and having his eyes truly opened.
When the group left, Tang Yue didn’t say anything, allowing them to reflect on their own.
"Tang Yue, I’ll treat you to dinner tonight." Shen Yunfei, with his arm around a hot-bodied beauty, looked at Tang Yue with his flirtatious eyes as if he was sending out signals, his mouth curled into a roguish smile, "But I’m inviting you all. As fellow Huaxia people, it’s rare to meet in F country, especially someone you know. I insist on treating you to Western cuisine."
"Sorry, we don’t like Western food," Tang Yue replied with a polite smile, subtly declining Shen Yunfei’s offer.
However, Shen Yunfei didn’t seem to notice and continued excitedly, "If you don’t like Western food, then I’ll treat you to Chinese. I know a place that serves Huaxia cuisine that’s really delicious and very authentic to our Huaxian identity."
Tang Yue felt her polite smile was about to break; how could he be so oblivious?
Did he need her to outright reject him to get the message?
"Sorry, our family would like to spend some time together," Tang Yue thought her response couldn’t be clearer this time.
Shen Yunfei stepped closer, but Wu Xin moved forward a step, protecting Tang Yue and putting distance between them.
Shen Yunfei, looking at Wu Xin, was reminded of their fight in the hallway; he couldn’t believe he had lost to this tomboy. Remembering the embarrassing moment, he instinctively disliked making eye contact with Wu Xin.
"Tang Yue."
Shen Yunfei looked past Wu Xin, gazing intensely at Tang Yue, "You and I are somewhat related; we’re practically family."
"Shen Yunfei, don’t falsely claim relations," Tang Yue firmly objected.
Tang Yue had delicate and gentle features, with bright eyes that sparkled like twinkling stars. Although petite and not very tall, she still looked graceful and dependent amongst Westerners, and even in front of Shen Yunfei. Known as the ’Eastern Beauty’ by her schoolmates, she was indeed beautiful, just not Shen Yunfei’s preferred type.
Shen Yunfei was attracted to women who were fiery and bold, as that sparked his interest. He only engaged more with Tang Yue for being an ’Eastern Beauty’ and because of Lian Qingyang. But now, as Tang Yue so ungraciously rejected him, Shen Yunfei’s face darkened, "Tang Yue, I’m sincerely inviting you to dinner. Do you think I would bother if not for Lian Qingyang?"
"Qingyang is my brother, but it doesn’t mean Qingyang’s cousin is my cousin. I’m not close to the Xiang Family, and there’s enmity between us."
Tang Yue had wanted to leave earlier, but Shen Yunfei was blocking her way, testing her patience.
Tang Mingli wanted to intervene several times, but seeing that Tang Yue was handling herself well, he couldn’t always be there to protect her. He didn’t want to impulsively offend someone and create an enemy for Tang Yue.
With that thought, Tang Mingli just stood by without saying a word.
"Tang Yue, that was not a very nice thing to say," Shen Yunfei was the type who wouldn’t give up the more you rejected him. He sized Tang Yue up and said, "You’ve got a pretty face, but even the prettiest of faces needs dressing up."
