“I will tell him.” She finally spoke.
“Are you sure?” Talia said, scanning her face.

“I mean, it may not be tomorrow or next, but I will tell him,” she nodded. “I just have to mentally prepare myself for the after–effects.”
“Everything will turn out well, you’ll see.” Talia assured her. “Now, how about we find out who your birth parents are?”
Alina’s heart started to pound at the suggestion.
“What’s wrong?” Talia asked worriedly noticing her hesitant expression. “You don’t want to?”
“I… uhmm… it’s not… What if they have moved on and forgotten about me or they really do not want me?” Alina said, sounding so vulnerable it made Talia’s heart ache.
“Alina,” Talia called, her face softening as she grabbed her hands. “Do not think like that. I am sure they want you and have never stopped looking for you, and they would be glad to have you as a daughter.”
“Really?”
“Of course, baby. But no pressure, okay? Whenever you are ready, let me know and I will get to work.” Talia told her not wanting to rush her.
She didn’t want Alina to feel rushed, she wanted her to do it at her own pace.
“Okay, let’s do it.” Alina finally said, taking a deep breath.
Talia didn’t waste any time grabbing her system and getting to work. Her fingers clacked so fast on the keypad Alina could barely keep up.
After about thirty minutes, she came up with nothing.
“I don’t understand.” She said in frustration.
“What’s going on?” Alina asked, worried.
“There’s nothing.” Talia told her.
“What do you mean nothing?” Alina’s face scrunched in confusion.
“I mean nothing is coming up. There’s no record of missing children dating back to the time when you were presumably adopted. Nothing about the Blackwood family either, it’s like they don’t exist. What if your family is dead too?”

“No. They are not.” Alina said firmly.
“How are you so sure?” Talia asked.

“Neither Silas nor Elena spoke about them like they were dead. I don’t know what connection my birth family had with Lucian, but this whole incident should be around the same time and Lucian’s family are the only ones they mentioned that are wiped out completely. Are you sure there’s nothing?” Alina asked.
“All my efforts keep leading to a dead end. It’s like someone is working overtime to make sure that information never gets out.” Talia told her.
“So what now?” Alina asked, already losing hope.
“Don’t worry, I’ll keep searching. I love a good challenge,” Talia smirked. “But for now, let’s talk about a lighter topic.” She suggested.
“I would love that.” Alina agreed, as the weight of the happenings of the whole day finally crashed on her. “What do you want to talk about?”
“Jacobi.” Talia wasted no time.
Alina wasn’t surprised that Talia was bringing him up. I mean she has been calling and texting her about him through out the week.
“What about him?” Alina asked, confused.
“The information you
asked me to find about him, I did. And Alina it is pretty messed up, his sister was murdered.” Talia said in an ominous tone.
“I know.” The words slipped out of Alina’s mouth before she could stop herself.
“You know? What do you mean you know?” Talia asked shocked but Alina remained quiet. “Alina.”
“Uhm… I mean… really?” Alina tried to correct herself.
“Don’t pull that crap with me, Alina. I heard you. You just said you know. How?” Talia stared at her sharply. “I did a little digging on Jacobi you know and I found out that you and him have not crossed paths before until your little trip downtown. And yes, I know about that, so I don’t know why you lied about him being your friend when you didn’teven know him until that day. “Talia told her. “My biggest surprise was when he told me that you were friends with his sister, but Alina, you and I both know that you have never had any form of contact with Rosaline. We both didn’t know her, we only found out who she was when we heard about her death. Now tell me, how on earth do you know all of that information about Jacobi?” Talia’s eyes were locked firmly on Alina’s.
Alina was cornered. She knew there was no lie she could tell that would get her out of this, not right now. Talia was watching her like a predator.
