The sleek black sedan pulled up before the mansion’s grand entrance. A second bodyguard swung open the door, Lucian stepped out, onto the gravel drive, his face a mask of controlled fury.
In his arms, Alina’s limp form hung heavy, draped in his coat that now covered her once–immaculate blouse torn, skin marred with bruises and smear of dried blood.
The driver, another of his silent, ever–watchful bodyguards, waited respectfully at the wheel with the engine still tumbling.
At the mansion’s grand entrance, Talia stood with four doctors and Maya close by. The moment Lucian appeared, Talia’s hand flew to her mouth. Her eyes widened as she noticed Alina’s battered face.
A strangled gasp tore from her throat, and tears spilled freely down her cheeks.
“Alina!” Talia sobbed, rushing forward.
“Doctor Hastings, Dr. Nguyen, take her!” Lucian’s voice cut through the panic, calm but absolute. He handed Alina over without a word.
The doctors moved with military precision, they unfastened Lucian’s coat, folded it under Alina’s head, slid her onto the stretcher, and snapped the safety straps.
Maya hurried to Lucian’s side. “Sir-” she began, concern tightening her brow.
“Nothing leaves these walls,” Lucian instructed, his eyes steely as he scanned the assembled staff. “Understood?”
Maya nodded vigorously. “Yes, sir.”
In the foyer, other staff peeked from behind pillars, whispers of worries echoing through the marble hall.
The stretcher was rolled toward the makeshift infirmary, a wing of the mansion curtained off and converted into a triage room, Lucian and Talia fell in quick steps behind.
The doctors disappeared into the double doors, and Lucian and Talia were left alone in the corridor. Talia’s shoulders shook with quiet sobs, Lucian stood beside her, expression impassive.
“She… she’ll be fine.” He said, surprising her with the gentlest words she had ever heard from him.
Talia looked up, eyes glistening, startled by the warmth in his voice. He wasn’t one for kindness, yet here it was, his solitary attempt at comfort. She exhaled a shuddering breath but he turned away before she could say anything.
Moments later, Dr. Hastings reemerged, wiping sweat from his brow. His white coat stained, exhaustion etched into his face he offered Lucian a curt nod. Lucian stepped forward.

The doctor swallowed. “Rape test is clean, Mr. Blackwood. She was not assaulted in that manner.”
Lucian’s shoulders released some of their tension. “Thank fuck.” He whispered the single admission of
emotion.
Relief flickered in his eyes before it was replaced by steel. Talia sniffed, relief mingling with fresh tears as she pressed her palm to her chest and said a silent prayer.
Doctor Hastings continued, voice trembling slightly. “Uhmm Mr. Blackwood, she has a subdural hematoma, fracture at the back of the skull with cerebral swelling, three broken ribs, a severely twisted ankle, multiple contusions to her face and wrists.”
Lucian’s jaw tightened until his knuckles whitened. Pure rage burned in his gaze as the doctor listed off Alina’s injuries.
“We’ve placed her in a medically induced coma to reduce intracranial pressure.”
Lucian’s eyes hardened. He stepped forward, seized Hastings lapels, and pinned him against the wall.
A nurse that was stepping out of the room at that exact momet gasped.
“Why the fuck would you do that to her? Why would you induce a Coma?” Lucian snarled, voice low and dangerous. His fingers bit into the doctor’s coat.
Dr. Hastings stammered, eyes widened in panic. “Mr. Blackwood…please…you must understand, her brain is swollen. Any stimulation risks further hemorrhage. She must rest, a medically induced coma is standard to reduce intracranial pressure, it’s the only way her brain can heal without further trauma. No anesthesia, just pure rest or we risk worsening the swelling.”
Lucian’s grip finally loosened and he released the doctor at last. Dr. Hastings slid down the wall in a trembling heap.
Lucian straightened, his breathing slow and measured, then his gaze turned to Talia who was staring at him wide–eyed with unspoken fear.
He finally spoke, voice softer but still firm,” Stay here with her.”
Talia swallowed, nodding. “Of course.”
Then he turned to the medical team “Keep her under constant observation,” he ordered. “I want hourly reports and none of you are allowed to leave until she’s out of danger.”
The doctors nodded fervently. “Yes Mr. Blackwood.”
