Louis knelt on the cold concrete floor, his body trembling under the single harsh beam of light cast down on him. Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth, dripping onto his shirt already soaked in red.
His face was battered, swollen, one eye nearly shut, but his voice carried desperation as he pleaded into the shadows.
“Please… please give me a second chance. I can make this right,” he begged, his voice cracking. His hands, bound in front of him, pressed together as if in prayer, his shoulders shaking with every word.
A low hum stirred from the darkness, followed by a voice, distorted, mechanical, almost inhuman. Its tone was calm at first, but carried venom beneath.
“Another chance? I gave you different chances, Louis. You blew them all. And instead of finishing the job…” The voice deepened, twisting with rage. “You went and fell in love with her? Is that what I sent you there to do?”
Louis’s head snapped up, his bruised face etched with panic. “No! No, I didn’t-” His voice wavered as he shook his head violently. “I didn’t fall in love with her, I swear!”
The voice boomed now, echoing through the room, shaking the air with fury. “Do you think I am stupid? Do you think I wasn’t watching? I saw you. I saw the way you looked at her. You weren’t just following orders…you were feeling. That was not part of your job description. I told you to gain her trust. I told you to make her fall for you and then bring her to me. But instead, you-” the voice spat, seething “—you fell in love with her.”
Louis lowered his head, tears and blood mingling as they dripped down his face. His lips trembled, his breath coming out in shallow bursts. “Please… I can fix this. Just give me one more chance.”
The shadowed figure’s laughter was cold, devoid of amusement. “No. I cannot give you a second chance. I cannot send you back there. Lucian Blackwood is already hunting you. Do you know what will happen when he gets his hands on you? What I’ve done to you now will look like child’s play compared to what he’ll do. That man is a devil. A demon.”
Louis’s chest rose and fell rapidly, his fear thickening the air.
“And worst of all,” the distorted voice pressed on, louder, harsher, “he already knows you’re working for me. How? How the hell did you let your cover get blown?”
Louis’s lips parted, but no sound came out. His silence was answer enough.
“You ruined everything!” the voice thundered, vibrating through the walls. “You…who I thought was the best in the game. And yet you failed. Not only did you fall for your target, but you hesitated. You had chances to take her, to bring her to me, but you faltered. Because you were in love.”
Louis bowed lower, his body shaking as he pressed his forehead to the ground, begging wordlessly now.

“You gave too much away. You exposed me. And now…” The figure’s words dripped with venom, every syllable edged like a blade. “Now they know I exist. Years… years I have spent building this plan, and you’ve destroyed it. Because of your weakness. Because of your stupidity.”
The voice cut off, leaving only the sound of Louis’s ragged sobs filling the suffocating silence.
Louis’s lips trembled as he lowered his head, his words breaking into desperate murmurs.
“I can fix it… I can fix it… I can fix it…” He kept repeating it like a prayer, as if the phrase alone could save him.
From the shadows, the distorted voice cut through, sharp and merciless.
“How?” it demanded, cold fury lacing each word. “How can you fix it? You can’t. You’ve ruined it.”
Louis flinched at the words, his shoulders sagging under the weight of his failure. His voice cracked as he tried again, but the figure silenced him with a low, chilling finality.
“Now,” the man’s tone shifted, almost mockingly sorrowful, “I have to get rid of you.” There was no true regret in his voice, only the hollow imitation of it.
In truth, Louis was nothing more than a discarded tool. The man never valued their lives. To him, they were only useful until they weren’t, and once broken, they were replaced without a second thought.
A flick of his hand was all it took. The two guards flanking Louis stepped forward instantly, their heavy boots echoing against the floor. Rough hands seized him beneath his arms, dragging his limp, bloodied body across the concrete.
Louis didn’t resist. He didn’t scream. His silence spoke volumes,he already knew his fate. He had known it the moment he chose to work for this man.
The distorted voice grew darker, vibrating with a growl that reverberated through the room.
“Now I have to do everything myself.”
A heavy pause followed, the air thick with menace, before the voice rose again, filled with venomous promise.
“Do not think for a second you’ve won, Lucian Blackwood. Soon… very soon… I will watch everything you’ve built crumble to the ground.”
The shrill ring of his phone shattered the quiet of the room. Lucian stirred, silencing it quickly before the sound could wake the woman lying beside him.
He turned, gaze softening as he watched Alina sleep, her breath steady and serene. Carefully, he shifted her, arranging her comfortably against the pillow he had been resting on. A faint smile touched his lips as she instinctively cuddled into it, seeking his warmth even in her dreams.
With deliberate quiet steps, he rose and slipped into the walk–in closet, shutting the door behind him before answering the call.

A harsh, mechanical voice hissed into his ear.
“I heard you’ve been looking for me… Lucius Stormvale.”
Lucian froze, his entire body going taut. His jaw clenched as ice threaded through his veins.
Nobody knew him by that name.
