hapter 207

AUTHOR’S POV.

A week later, Alina found herself once again crossing paths with Damien. This time it wasn’t in a coffee shop or a mall, but near a quiet street lined with boutiques and cafés. She blinked in surprise when she spotted him.

Her lips curved into a polite smile. Damienfancy seeing you again.”

To Alina, it was a mere coincidence but it wasn’t really. Damien had intentionally showed up there because he knew she would be there.

He returned the smile easily, as though he’d been expecting her. Alina. What are the odds? Seems Elaris is smaller than I thought.

She chuckled softly. Apparently.

After a brief exchange of pleasantries, Damien tilted his head toward her. Actually, I was hoping I’d run into you. I need a couple of new outfits, both business and casual. Since I’ll be staying in Elaris for a while, I figured you’d be the perfect person to design them.

Her brows arched slightly, curiosity flickering in her eyes. Oh? Well, that can be arranged. Do you want to come by the store to discuss it further, orshe gestured lightly toward the street, should we just find somewhere to sit down and talk?

“There’s a park not far from here,Damien suggested smoothly. It’s quieter. Why don’t we go there?

Alright.” Alina agreed with a small nod.

They walked together to the nearby park, settling onto a shaded bench beneath the shade of a tall tree. The late afternoon breeze barely cut through the heat, but it was calmer here than on the street.

Damien leaned back, his posture casual but his eyes sharp on her. So, what I need is a m A few business suits, tailored, clean lines, nothing too loud. I want them to make a statement without screaming for attention.

Alina gave a small nod, her mind already sketching possibilities. Alrightsharp and understated. Do you prefer darker shades or are you open to experimenting with color?

Mostly darker tones,Damien replied smoothly, then glanced at her with the faintest smirk. Though, I’ll trust your judgment. I have a feeling you’ll make me look better than I can imagine.”

Her lips curved at the compliment, though she quickly masked it with professionalism. And for the casual outfits? She asked, tilting her head, penning the details in her mind.

Something versatile,he said. Pieces I can wear to a dinner without looking underdressed, but also relaxed enough for daytoday.”

She nodded again, thoughtful. Comfortable but polishedGot it. How many pieces are you thinking in total?

Enough to last me for a while,Damien replied, his gaze steady on her. I’ll leave the exact number to you.”

Alina laughed softly, shaking her head. You’re making this sound like a mystery project. I’ll have to surprise you then.

That wouldn’t be the worst thing,Damien murmured, a small glint in his eyes.

The late afternoon sun was relentless, though, and when an ice cream truck chimed nearby, she glanced over at it with a faint smile. Damien caught the look.

Shall we?He asked with a smile seeing as they were thinking the same thing.

She laughed lightly. Why not? Feels like the weather is demanding it.”

They walked over to the ice cream truck.

What flavor would you like?he asked, his tone light, though his eyes lingered on her with an attentiveness that felt heavier than the casual question.

Alina studied the options displayed on the board, tapping her chin. Hmmvanilla with a swirl of caramel.”

For a fleeting moment, Damien’s gaze softened, something unreadable flickering in his eyes, something that made Alina’s chest tighten with an odd sense of familiarity. But before she could pin it down, it vanished as quickly as it appeared, replaced by his usual composed expression.

She frowned slightly, then brushed it off with a small shrug. Why? Did I pick something weird?

Damien’s lips curved into the faintest smile as he turned to the vendor. Two cones of vanilla caramel, please.”

Alina blinked, surprised. The same?

It just so happens,Damien said smoothly, accepting the cones, that it’s my favorite too.”

He handed one to her, before they walked back toward the shaded bench, the summer heat oftened by the cool treat in their hands.

Alina found herself momentarily distracted, staring at the simple scene, the park, the laughter of children, the sweetness of ice cream melting too quickly in the sun. Something about it tugged at her.

A flicker of déjà vu.

She frowned faintly to herself, brushing the thought aside.

As they continued their conversation, a little girl, no more than four, ran up to them, her curls bouncing with each step. She stared at Alina, then at Damien, her small face lighting up with innocent wonder.

Are you two brother and sister? She asked, tilting her head curiously.

Alina blinked, caught off guard, before letting out a soft laugh. Oh, no, sweetheart. We’re not siblings.
