The cathedral was hushed, bathed in golden light that poured through the towering stained–glass windows, painting the marble floor with streaks of ruby and sapphire. Guests sat in orderly rows, their heads tilted expectantly toward the altar.
At the front, Lucian stood tall, his broad shoulders squared, his hands clasped loosely in front of him. Outwardly, he was every inch the unshakable Blackwood. Inwardly, tension coiled tight inside him, sharp and relentless.
Only Ace, who stood not far off, could sense the storm brewing beneath his master’s composed exterior. Through the discreet earpiece in Lucian’s ear, Ace’s low voice came steady, calm, as though he already knew Lucian’s heart was waging war against itself.
“Boss,” Ace murmured, “she’s arrived safely to the venue. Shadows are in place. Security’s tighter than a vault. There’s nothing to worry about.”
Lucian exhaled quietly, the faintest flicker of relief passing through his eyes. “Good.” He whispered, more to himself than anyone else. Yet still, unease clung to him like a shadow that refused to be shaken off.
The words from that call lingered, poisoning even this moment of sanctity.
‘Getting married to Alina will do nothing but put her in danger…‘
The memory curled around his chest, but before it could suffocate him, the air shifted.
The organ swelled, majestic and commanding, filling the cathedral with solemn beauty. A hush fell over the guests as the announcement came:
“Please rise for the bride.”
The scrape of chairs echoed softly as everyone stood, heads turning in unison toward the grand double doors at the end of the aisle.
Slowly, reverently, the doors opened.
And there she was.
Alina stepped through the threshold like a vision pulled from a fairytale. The veil softened her features, but even hidden beneath its delicate lace, her beauty radiated with breathtaking power. Her gown shimmered under the golden light, the intricate lace catching every glimmer as if the stars themselves had been sewn into the fabric.
Mummurs of awe filled the air.
The sight of her hit Lucian like a blow, forcing the breath from his lungs. For the entire morning, the weight of dread had sat heavy inside him, but now…just for a moment, some of it melted away. She was his anchor, his salvation. She was the one thing in this world that could unravel him with a single glance.

Her eyes sought his immediately. Even through the veil, he could feel her gaze, sharp and knowing she saw what no one else could, the tension etched in his jaw, the storm buried in his chest. Her brows furrowed with quiet concern, her lips parting as though she wished she could reach him from across the aide.
Lucian, her lips formed silently, a whisper just for him.
The music swelled, each note echoing like a heartbeat as she walked the long aisle. Alone. She had refused Silas, refused the cruelty of being walked forward by the man who had raised her as a pawn
She took each step with quiet defiance, her spine straight, her chin lifted. And yet, beneath it all, there was softness….the vulnerability of a woman choosing to walk by herself toward the man she loved.
When she finally reached him, Lucian extended his hand. She placed hers into it, delicate against his strength, and he tightened his grip, grounding himself in her warmth.
Through the veil, her lips moved again, soundless but clear. “Are you okay?”
He saw the worry in her eyes, the way it tugged at the corners of her mouth. For a heartbeat, his chest ached with the desire to confess everything…the call, the threat, the dread gnawing at his insides.
But not now.
Not here.
His dark eyes held hers as he gave the smallest nod. “I’m fine.” His voice was low, steady, unshaken, even though his soul trembled.
When she tried to press, her lips parting again, he gave her hand a firmer squeeze and shook his head faintly.
Later.
Alina exhaled, her chest rising softly, and then nodded. For now, she would trust him.
The priest began, his voice warm and commanding, echoing across the vaulted ceiling.
“Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today in the sight of God and in the presence of these witnesses, to join together this man and this woman in holy matrimony.”
Lucian’s gaze never wavered from Alina. It was as though the rest of the cathedral had vanished. Only she existed.
“Marriage is a sacred covenant,” the priest continued. “A union not to be entered into lightly, but reverently, deliberately, and in the fear of the Lord.”
Lucian barely heard him. His focus remained on the woman standing before him. Her lips curved faintly beneath the veil, her eyes softening with love as she looked back at him. She could see the storm in him, yes, but she also saw the man beneath it. The man who loved her so fiercely it terrified even him.
“Marriage is a bond of trust, of faithfulness,” the priest said. “It is two souls choosing to walk as one, in joy and in sorrow, in strength and in weakness.”
Her hand tightened around his, subtle but unmistakable. His chest tightened in return. He squeezed back, his
