Rebirth Of The Heiress And The Tycoon's Lover (Alina) novel Chapter 47

Chapter 47

AUTHOR’S POV.

“I knew that was you.” A cheerful voice, one Alina hoped she’d never hear again, spoke behind her.

Oh come on.

Why today of all days? Alina thought, frustrated.

“Oh. Hi, Louis.” She put on her fake smile and veered around to greet him.

As expected, she was met with Louis’s smiling face.

“Fancy seeing you here.” She said.

“I could say the same for you.” He replied, his smile never faltering. “Do you work around here?”

“Something like that,” Alina answered cryptically. “Someone recommended the coffee here.” She lied smoothly.

She didn’t want to give Louis any information about herself.

“Well, they’re right about that, the coffee here is to die for. ” He said, “You never did return any of my calls or messages.” Louis added with a hint of disappointment in his tone.

“I’m so sorry about that. I’ve been really busy planning for an event.” She replied truthfully.

Alina had indeed been busy, but she was also avoiding him.

“If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you were avoiding me.” He chuckled.

Alina may not have noticed it, but there was something darker about the way he said it.

“Of course not,” she denied with a small laugh. “Why would I avoid you?”

“I don’t know. Maybe because of your fiancé. He made it obvious he didn’t like me.” Louis’s response hit the mark dead-on.

“Yes, Lucian doesn’t like you, but it’s nothing personal. He doesn’t like anybody,” she said, coming to Lucian’s defense. “And like I said, I was busy.”

Alina tried to keep her tone soft, but there was a subtle bite in it, too faint to notice, but Louis caught it. And it didn’t sit well with him. His fist clenched tightly at his side, though his smile, although a little strained, remained.

“I’ll take your word for it then,” Louis said. “So… are you up for that coffee now?”

“Well-”

“Order for Mia.” The barista announced.

“That would be me,” Alina said, turning back to the counter and grabbing the order. “Thank you.” She added with a polite smile.

Turning back to Louis, she spoke, “I really have to go.” Raising the bag that held Mia’s food.

Louis’s face fell.

Inside, he was fuming. Befriending Alina was proving more difficult than he had anticipated. From what he’d gathered, she was a naive woman, easy to manipulate and always seeking attention and validation.

But the woman standing in front of him didn’t seem like that at all.

Alina noticed the disappointment in his eyes and sighed. She figured it was better to just have coffee with him and get rid of him once and for all, rather than prolong the inevitable.

“Fine. Give me a second.” She told him, then walked toward Jordan, who stood waiting by the door with a tight jaw and firm expression as he regarded Louis with obvious suspicion.

“Jordan, I want you to take this to Mia for me.” She said, handing him the bag.

“But madam-”

“Just do as you’re told,” She cut him off. Then she leaned in slightly and continued, “But one more thing. Call Lucian and tell him I’m having coffee with Louis here.”

“Ma’am?” Jordan’s eyes widened, a mix of shock and confusion flashing in them.

He didn’t understand why she would want to intentionally get Lucian here. Was she trying to make him jealous or something?

“Yes, Jordan.” She rolled her eyes at his expression. “Tell him I said he should come get me as soon as possible.” She finished.

The Blackwood Tower was in the area, and Alina knew that at the mention of Louis’s name, Lucian would be there in a flash. She would explain everything to him later, but for now, he was the one person who could get her out of this.

She’d rather face Lucian’s wrath than endure God knows how long of this coffee date or whatever this was.

“Okay, madam.” Jordan responded, shooting her one last worried glance before walking off in fast, calculated strides.

The only reason Alina was willing to let Jordan go was because this was a public space. What was the worst that could happen?

Jordan didn’t waste any time. Even though he dreaded the phone call, he knew he had to make it.

Call it instinct, but Louis rubbed him the wrong way, and he hated that he had to leave his madame alone.

“Boss.” Jordan greeted as soon as the call connected.

“Talk to me, Jordan.” Ace’s voice came through the receiver instead, and Jordan almost jumped in relief. “Is the madame okay?”

“The madame is fine, but she has a message for boss.” Jordan said with urgency.

“Boss is in a meeting right now, but drop the message and I’ll relay it to him.” Ace replied.

“It’s a matter of urgency. Madame is having coffee with a certain Louis, and she looks like she’d rather be anywhere but there, so she asked that boss come get her as soon as possible.” He rushed out, his gaze flickering around as he walked faster.

“And where are you?” Ace asked, his voice sharpening slightly.

“She sent me on an errand. Back to the office.” Jordan responded, guilt creeping into his tone.

“Jordan-”
