"President Stone has personally asked him to oversee the project, with the chairman's approval," said Conan.
Ariana tapped the desk lightly, pondered for a long time, and then said, "Go and see what the vice president is doing right now."
"Understood!"
He nodded slightly, dialed the number of Lambert's assistant, and waited for a while before someone answered the call.
Upon seeing the call from Ariana's office, Assistant Hills quietly excused himself from the meeting where Lambert was discussing business with a foreign CEO to answer the phone.
"This is Assistant Hills."
"Is the vice president available now?" asked Conan.
There was a brief pause on Assistant Hills's end before he said apologetically, "The vice president is in a meeting right now. If there's some urgency, I can relay the message."
Upon hearing this, the telling gestures from Ariana led Conan to convey the entire issue to Assistant Hills.
Suspecting Lambert's meeting would last a while, Ariana stood up and said to Conan, "Prepare a car. We are going to the construction site."
"This..." Conan looked a bit hesitant at Ariana.
Ariana understood his concerns. Assistant Lane is Arnold's man and is also ordered by Old Mr. Stone. She is from the White corporation, and could potentially influence decisions, negatively or positively.
"I may be part of the White corporation," she said seriously, "but I'm also the wife of the Vice President of the Stone corporation, thus I do have the right to handle such matters."
Conan nodded slightly, seeing the logic in Ariana's words.
As Conan dialed to arrange the car, Ariana packed some belongings and rapidly headed downstairs.
To her surprise, Ariana ran into Johan just as she left her office.
Seeing Ariana clutching her bag, appearing ready to leave the company, he lifted an eyebrow and asked, "Manager White, what's the rush? Where are you heading?"
Ariana, startled by the chance encounter with him, stalled briefly before responding with a faint smile, "I heard that the construction workers at our site are in a sour mood lately. I've got a lot to do this afternoon, so I'm taking advantage of the morning to check on things."
Johan appeared slightly struck, "Workers?"
She shrugged off his puzzlement with a casual laugh, "Would you like to come along?"
"No need," he responded, "I've got some errands today. Construction sites are prone to accidents, remember to be safe."
Ariana replied, "Of course."
Glancing at the time, she said, "It's getting late, I should go."
Johan nodded gently, "Take care."
Ariana, her expression unaffected, quickly headed for the elevator. Beside her, Conan seemed caught between words.
Once they were in the elevator, Conan couldn’t hold back, "Manager White, if word gets out about this, I'm afraid..."
Ariana let out a cold laugh, thinking back to Johan's expression. She said meaningfully, "Do you think he's unaware of the situation?"
Johan was from her aunt -in-law's family, therefore, he was also Arnold's man.
Even if he isn't involved in this, it would be impossible for him not to know a thing or two.
And that's why Beverly chose to move her office next to the marketing department.
She noted that the lodging had already started construction and was slowly beginning to take shape.
She noticed a pile of wood off to the side, and after looking at it for a moment, she realized that all the wood was precious bitterwood. Frowning slightly, she asked, "Where did all this wood come from?"
"They came from the Austin Corporation!" The foreman replied hurriedly.
Austin Corporation...
She knew it; it was probably William's company.
However, as far as she knew, the Stone family had always collaborated with the Lawrence Corporation.
So, it was presumably Lambert who made the decision.
In principle, there should be no problem with this kind of wood.
But, even if the Austin Corporation dominated nearly half of the domestic building materials market, they should not be so extravagant.
Ariana pondered for a long time but couldn't figure it out, so she went around the hotel to take a look.
There were some ready-made wooden hotel furniture displayed outside, which she appreciated for their meticulous workmanship, so she went to take a closer inspection.
The foreman said flatteringly, "As for the wooden items, they were all made by the wood craftsman invited from the capital."
The exterior part of the hotel was made of wood and the interior was concrete, which was indeed following the original meeting requirements. And the engineers improved some details based on their expertise. The result was quite satisfactory.
But after she looked at it for a while, she found the problem. She discovered that the nature of the wood was slightly revealed in the corner.
The window frames which were supposed to be made of bitterwood were made from the lowest quality wood. She might not have spotted this if the painter had not been careless.
